| Azar_of_Faerun01-10-07, 10:55 AM | Looking for something mostly Arcane or Divine to send up against the PC in an NPC duo that will render most of their powers/items inert. Any suggestions? |
| Prominence01-10-07, 11:10 AM | There's a few. A cleric with the initiate of mystra feat will shut down many magical attempts at her. See the Cheater of Mystra build for a drastic one-sided fight. there's the Wizard 3 / Master Specialist 10 / IotSV 7 who can dispel most anything, toss around disjunctions, and abuse Kaleidescope of Doom on your group. Truenamer 20 is able to supress any magic items then shatter said item in a single round, easily. Any ToB character functions just fine in an AMF, usually. Extraordinary Spell Aim and Mastery of Shaping (archmage) both allow for more antimagic field abuse. |
| Thaumaturgist01-10-07, 11:13 AM | Kaleidoscope.. of doom? What's that? Sounds interesting. |
| FriendlyFrog01-10-07, 11:15 AM | A little more information would be appriciated. Books you can use, what level are the PCs, what kind of characters do they have, etc. If you want to be nasty, make a Cleric that uses Extraordinary spell aim from Complete arcane to make himself ignore the effects of an Antimagic field. Sending a fully buffed Cleric against characters that can't use magic at all is a pure slaughter. Another, not as nasty way, would be maxing dispelling. a Wizard 3/Master specialist 10/Initiate of the seven fold veil with the feat Elven spell lore will have a dispel check of 1d20+31 with a Greater dispel magic. If your players have a caster level of 20, the dispel will always succeed. And the there's the Mordenkainen's disjunction, one of the nastiest spells there is. EDIT: Bah, should try to check for new posts before posing myself. |
| Chicknin101-10-07, 11:23 AM | Witchborn Binder (Magic of Incarnum) is pretty good for that kinda thing |
| ashideena01-10-07, 11:23 AM | Something like Wiz 6/Fighter 1/Spellsword 1/Abjurant Champion 5/Initiate of the Sevenfold Veils 7 can be pretty good. The result is 19 CL and 13 BAB, so it's a kind of a half assed gish by accident. Should end up with a high AC from just a handful of buffs, plus all the goodies of Initiate. |
| Azar_of_Faerun01-11-07, 12:35 AM | Ah, here we go Core books Anything Forgotten Realms Any Complete books Any environmental books Any Races of books Characters are average level 16, and I want the challenger to be 17 (any race except Mind Flayers is fine) Jon, Cleric of Hoar 16 Alethiel, Fighter 2/Ranger 15 Hans, Wizard (generalist) 15 Yolin, Rogue 8/Assassin 9 |
| Phoenix0001-11-07, 12:38 AM | Virtuso and Seeker of the Song gets ability that prevents people from casting unless they can surpass your perform check with a concentration check. Built correctly and there is no way they can do so. |
| LogicNinja01-11-07, 12:59 AM | Chain Greater Dispel + Chain Shatter gets rid of items. Target every item and both of them; the items will be suppressed (nonepic items don't have a CL above 20). Use a Quicken rod or Imbue Familiar With Spell Ability to get both off in the same round. Mmm, Chain Spell. |

I don't know if the PHB II is allowed. It sometimes gets lumped in with Core because of it's name. |
| Azar_of_Faerun01-11-07, 04:18 AM | What book is Elven spell lore from? |
| FriendlyFrog01-11-07, 04:23 AM | What book is Elven spell lore from? Player's handbook II. |

Use a Quicken rod or Imbue Familiar With Spell Ability to get both off in the same round. Mmm, Chain Spell. Oh that is pure cruel, pure cruel. With a Wizard 3 / Master Specialist 10 / IotSV 7 reoccurring BBEG who uses that on your first encounter (lets say about 15th lvl) you have a chance of making your players cry/throw things at you. Have him then runaway, throw some easy encounters/treasure at your party to make up for there losses, and they will be terrified/wanting to kick his ass the next encounter. The next/final encounter instead of using Chain Greater Dispel, he uses "Chain Dispel" and gets up to 25th caster lvl+5 (Half your Master Specialist Lvl) to repeat the same process. Seriously logic ninja, that is like throwing Mage Disjunction around except its an 8th and 5th lvl spell, and it will get around any house rule you have that says no Mage Disjunction. Pure cruel. You are going to want to do the imbue familiar with spell like ability (instead of a quicken rod) so you can then as an immediate action throw up a veil after your familiar casts the chain shatter, do it afterward so as an immediate action to protect you and your familiar and get rid of line of sight. Quick Question can a Specialist Abjurer still get the benefits of the Spontaneous Dispelling (Unearthed Arcana specialist substitution) if he prestiges out prior to lvl 5 and 11? Are those lvl dependent abilities or class lvl? The Spontaneous Dispellling text can be located here. http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/classes/specialistWizardVariants.htm#spontaneous Dispelling |
| Tleilaxu_Ghola01-11-07, 02:31 PM | Check my signature for the link to "Busting the persistant buff menace: A DM resource." It's a fairly comprehensive library of all the ways you can strip magical buffs off someone. The best, low level (and even functional at high level) trick is to use spell thief from complete adventurer. It's a simple way to strip a powerful buff off of some caster. Even better is the fact that the buff isn't wasted... it's transferred to the one who stole it! Does your wizard have an unstoppable invulnerability buff? As long as you can hit his touch AC, you could steal the buff and give it to yourself. The look on the wizard's face: priceless. |

I'm pretty sure that the Chain Dispel spell specifies the targets have to be creatures. Seriously logic ninja, that is like throwing Mage Disjunction around except its an 8th and 5th lvl spell, and it will get around any house rule you have that says no Mage Disjunction. Pure cruel. A 9th and a 5th, since Chain Greater Dispel is 9th, but yes, yes it is--of course, it has the same problems, since you don't want to do it since your DM might then do it to you. It has an advantage over disjunction in that all the items go away without a save (Disjunction gets rid of all their spells and some of their items; this gets rid of some of their spells and all of their items). |

Mh, similar to the spellthief with reworked "stealing-abilities": hellbreaker from Fiendish Codex II (great book, btw). A 10-level PrC (easily qualified via any skill class with some sneak attack/sudden strike/skirmish) with very useful steal spell/undo resistance/spoil summoning/steal spell-like ability/hijack teleport/insta-planeshift/steal supernatural ability (yay!)... basically a lots-of-fun-class! Could be a problem: Level-cap for abilities is fifth level, so the mightiest buffs can't be stolen. Wait a minute? Can you go pun-pun with steal supernatural ability? Ah... the pain. EJ |
