A psion can augment his powers up to do some really impressive things, but he'll be burning PsPs at an astounding rate. So he'll have the ability to essentially use nothing but higher level effects, but he's giving up a lot of uses of his powers to do so. I think in practice most people who play psions use a ton of first level and 2nd level powers since they are cheap, and as many of their highest level powers as they can, so the burn out faster than a sorcerer. On a raw level, if you were to calculate how many power points a sorcerer gets based on their spells per day, they end up with 486 power points at 20th level, before bonus slots are added. Of course, it's not as simple as comparing power point totals. With the ability to augment their powers and the addition of bonus feats a psion can make a very nice blaster indeed. My guess is that they actually fall somewhere in between wizards and sorcerers. |
