| Purple Dragon Knight03-23-06, 03:17 PM | Good day to you, Devoted Optimizers! :) I was wondering if any of you knew how to bypass arcane spell failure percentages due to armors and shield. I'm not looking for class features here, but for armor/shield properties, wizard spells, etc. Likewise, anything that can make one bypass the penalty on attack rolls associated to wearing armor without the appropriate armor proficiency feat? PS: I play a wizard with the Militia feat (PGtoF) which gives him access to all Martial Weapons... I would like to have my wizard not only use Martial weapons but also some type of armor, with low arcane failure and low armor check penalty... PS2: yes, I am aware of the spellsword, warmage, and bard's ability to cast in armor... but I really want to stick to wizard levels, so I am looking for armor enchantments or spells here... |

| pyro_cat03-23-06, 03:27 PM | Today's your lucky day! Don't multiclass! Don't be afraid of armour! Come and look at pyro's wonderful thread of spells that you can cast wearing anything from your knickers to a Mech (tm). http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=472555 and it's little cousin (if you have limited resources): http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=475838 |

| Adrian_Crane03-23-06, 03:57 PM | Twilight - BoED enchantment Mithral RotW armors and underlays (can't remember the specifics) To elaborate... DMG: Mithral: Lowers ASF by 10% DMG II: Githcraft armor template, lowers ASF by 5% RotW: Thistledown Suit underlayer, lowers ASF by 5%, raises ACP by 1 BoED: Twilight Armor (+1 equiv), lowers ASF by 10% So a Githcraft Mithral armor with a Thistledown suit underlay and the Twilight enchant gives you a grand total of 30% less ASF, a check penalty of one higher, and a fair investment in cash. That's not counting the other benefits of Mithral. That means if you have Githcraft Mithral Full Plate with a Thistledown Suit and the Twilight enchant, it's got the following: Medium Armor, 25 lbs AC 8 (max Dex +3) ACP of -4 ASF of *drumroll* 5% All this without any levels, feats, or anything else, except for the cost of the item and the use of a +1 equivalent enchantment. WITHOUT the enchant it's 15% ASF. A 3rd level Spellsword can bypass that, and that leaves the item's enchant slots freed up for other things. |
