armor enhancement that changes size with you [Archive] - Wizards Community

Is there an enhancement available for armors that will lets it wearer change its size? When my werebear shifts form, he becomes Large and according to the RAW in the Races of Faerun book (pg 146) the armor doesnt change size. Magical armor will survive the change with a DC15 Fort save, but it doesnt specify whether the armor changes to the creatures new size or merely doesnt break, i.e. it's discarded on the ground unharmed. The Sizing weapon enhancement (+1, from Underdark, pg 69) allows the wielder to change the weapons size as a standard action. Is there a similar enhancement for armor out there?

Side Note: Has anyone used the Sizing enhancement? What's the best way to incorporate/exploit it?

Sizing won't work for a druid as your normal armor is only useable when you're in a humanoid form. What you want is beastskin armor from the complete adventurer which is a +2 enhancement and requires an additional use of wildshape to evoke.

IMHO the extra use of wildshape is a bit harsh but it's about the only way you can do it without a separate suit of armor for different shapes.

Sizing isn't an enhancement for armor - it's for weapons that I posted as an example of an enhancement that works similarly to what I'm looking for. Also, my character isn't a druid, he's a werebear (pg 144, Races of Faerun).

Eh? Well, I don't have Races of Faerun, but magical armor resizes to its wearer automatically. It's in the DMG.

Where does it say that?

Eh? Well, I don't have Races of Faerun, but magical armor resizes to its wearer automatically. It's in the DMG.Ued to, in 3.0. I believe they cut that out to prevent people from buying smaller suits of armor to reduce the cost and then wearing them as medium characters.

SIZE AND MAGIC ITEMS
When an article of magic clothing or jewelry is discovered, most of the time size shouldn’t be an issue. Many magic garments are made to be easily adjustable, or they adjust themselves magically to the wearer. Size should not keep characters of various kinds from using magic items.
There may be rare exceptions, especially with racial specific items.
Also bottom of page 213, DMG has the same entry with a little more explaination.

this doesent apply to armor, but to everything else.

To be honest, i wouldent go with armor, I would go with bracers of armor. they automaticly change shape becuse of the above rule.

to change size in armor would probably be a +1 enhancement.

note: don't have books with me right now

I know magical armor is supposed to resize to fit its wearer, but what it says in RoF provides a specific rule going against the general DMG "magical armor resizing".

Since I can change at will, and have it last all day, I suppose I could have him take his armor off in the morning, shift into his hybrid form, then put the armor back on. Since it's magic armor, it would then follow the guidelines in the DMG and change size to fit my Large character. That feels like too much of a meta-game workaround though.

Do you think a direct port of the Sizing enhancement from weapons to armor would be viable? Standard action to change size, +1 bonus.

Not really meta gaming, if your character understands that his armour could break if he shifts in it but also knows it will resize to fit him then it's logical, from an in-character view, to do this.

That's a question for your GM, it's not really up to anyone here. For what it's worth, I'd let it in one of my games.

Can't you use wild enhancement? The armor shifts with you but still works, so you look unarmored but you aren't

I tend to agree with moon-lancer, armor is not clothing or jewelry or garments ...

The only enchantment I know of which would work is the shapeshifting armor special ability from oriental adventures (but it turns the armor bonus into deflection, so that aint all that good either).

Well, random armor and weapon size %s are included under the same section for size and magical "items". I can't find any sections on re-sizing magical armor/weapons around the sections such as repairing magic items. I also can't find any tables for price differences for creating or finding items of different sizes in the DMG either...size is left out of all the price tables for the base cost of weapons and armor. It's seems kinda ambiguous. If there is something on resizing magical armor via enchantment or reforging or whatnot, that'd clear it up.
