| Velderan09-22-05, 08:08 PM | I'm currently playing in a campaign in which the PCs are all playing ourselves, sucked into a D&D world (cliche, but a lot of fun). Being that we have new people (and most of us who are experienced are heavier RPers than H&Sers), no ones trying to make a min/maxed char as much as a cool char, who fits us and doesn't neccessarily suck. (well, we did exxagerate our point buy a bit). Anyway, I'm currently playing a wiz1/dru2 with plans of going into arcane hierophant. My companion is an enormous riding dog (namely an Irish wolfhound), and is a major focus of my character, being from a family of dog lovers. I'm running into a couple of problems with this: 1. how do you determine whether or not an animal would be considered "war-trained"? I assume, as a "riding" dog, it is profficient with barding, and, since it's basically there for war, I assume it's profficient with the trip attack, ability, but I don't see rules for this anywhere. How do you determine this? Is it a DM call? 2. Where the heck are the feats that add to your animal companion? I've seen a million feats that do something to your familiar, but I don't see any related to animal compaion, except for "Natural Bond", which I've already taken to offset multiclassing, and "exalted companion", which my DM will probably allow me to reverse into "fiendish companion". I thought I had seen more cool animal companion feats listed in some of the books, but I can't seem to find any now. I don't mind taking feats that aren't neccessarily cost effective, because I want my dog to be part of the development of my character, and my char's about what I'd want to do in a D&D world, not "Number crunching". Has anyone seen any feats that would help, or should I attempt to persuade my DM into allowing me a familiar feat for my companion? (I think the Companion Familiar is just supposed to be an animal companion with some familiar abilities, so I'm not sure if any of these feats will technically apply). |
