Artificers, because they can't cast spells need to make UMD checks when creating items. Check. a)When making say a bottle of air, which requires Water Breathing (which is a 3rd level spell castable at 5th level) with CL 7, the example given in the ECS Why does the artificer have to get a DC 27 UMD and not a DC 25? Is it because he is emulating a water breathing spell cast at CL7 and thus has to make a 20 + 7 UMD? b.)What about things that have multiple spell requirements? Like say, the dedicated wright. This little guy requires the arcane eye spell (4th level spell) and fabricate (5th level spell). You only get one UMD check per day of construction to emulate a spell prerequisite for an item. So in this case, does he get to make a check for the arcane eye and the fabricate each day, one for each, so thats two UMD per day? Or does he have to make two successful checks, one at 27 (to emulate a 7th level wizard, minimum required for arcane eye) and one at 29 (ditto for fabricate, minimum CL is 9th) over the course of the 5 days he takes to make one of these (4200 base price, calculating from the 2100 creation price) and the last ditch attempt he makes on the last day for a total of 6 tries to make two UMD attempts one at 27 and one at 29? To muddy the issue further, the dedicated wright doesn't even have a CL attached to it, so is it the case that as long as you can emulate the spells involved, you're good to go? I apologize if this has been answered before, but I've read the artificer faq and scanned the boards and nothign came up. prototype00 |

It says you must rollfor each and then that you can retry each on suceeding days if necessary. In practice people are unlikely to risk the gold on checks they aren't confident of getting (preferably with a 10). |
