| The Law11-15-05, 04:53 AM | Hi guys, I'm building an artificer that specializes in blasting things with wands, and I've got a question that I can't seem to find a straight answer to. Can you apply multiple metamagic feats at the same time using metamagic spell trigger? The text in the ECS doesn't say whether you can or can't. I reckon all the artificer CO guys over here will prolly know? |
| Kendrick11-15-05, 11:10 AM | You can apply multiple feats, but they don't necessarily stack - i. e. if you applied the empower and twin feats to a CL 5 wand of fireballs, you would get a 5d6*1.5 fireball and a 5d6 fireball; you would not get two 5d6*1.5 fireballs. It's also questionable whether you can quicken a spell trigger item, since they generally take a standard action to use even if the spell stored has lower casting time - some DMs allow it, some don't, so check with yours before you take quicken. |
| Sphendule11-15-05, 11:38 AM | This topic has been discussed before on these boards here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=446271), which also has links to other boards where this topic has been discussed, beaten, chewed, and swallowed, yet it keeps regurgitating the same reasons and almost always ends up being something that's at the discretion of the DM because the rules aren't 100% clear on this subject. There is also a thread where it has been proven that metamagic is balanced when the DM allows different types of these feats to stack in all instances other than the one listed straight from the text: the interaction between Maximize Spell and Empower Spell. This thread can be found here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=522167). |

| The Law11-16-05, 12:42 AM | Thanks guys, Just keep in mind that without a search function, DMs that only bought Eberron in the last 2 weeks and don't spend hours everyday on the CO boards won't 'smell' that there's a thread for this already. Your link to the threads are appreciated though ;) Basically just wanted to know if I can use an empowered scorching ray, followed by an empowered, quickened scorching ray in the same turn using my wand at level 6 for 10 charges. It would appear that this is the case. |

It'll make it count as a "quickened" spell, but you still have to burn the standard action to trigger it. |
