Alright, so I have a Gnome artificier but sadly, to make things interesting I decided to use constitution as the dump stat. I had 6 but with the +2 con from gnomes it gave me 8. I was starting at lvl 6 and after a few bad hp rolls I was now a lvl 6 artificer with 13 hp but that's not the worst. Obviously....I died, 1 shot kill by a black pudding but after the fight was over, my friendly druid partner reincarnated me, woohoo....

I am now a lvl 6 human artificier with an hp of 7 (cause of the constitution drop from race change).

So here is what I want. 1. I want to be a gnome again. 2.I like this character but I want to make him a tad more hearty. Since I am an artificer, I was thinking that my char would have no objection to making changes to his body (like adding grafts or other things in the likes). Apart from the obvious constitution boosting items, what else can I do to add some survivability to this character?

Ugh. Some things just can't be fixed, I'm afraid.

oye, not what I was looking for. Alright I s'pose I'll reroll a new gnome artificer, although that just seems weird story wise. Gnome artificer leave and bam another one joins.

In the future, make either Dex or Wis your dump stat.

As for this character:
If you're really desperate (and get lucky) making yourself a half-golem either removes your con score, or gives you an unnamed +4con. (MM II page209)
Pretty much you replace some of your limbs with golem limbs, and get cool special abilities such as massive str boost, massive armor boost magic immunities and other golem traits.

Taking levels in the renegade mastermaker might assist you as well.

What is the renegade mastermaker and where might I find it?

you can find the renegade master in Mage of ebberron.

DUDE!!, Never put a 6 into con, if you have read any of the Artificer FAQS, you would know that the Artificer can be a potent meleeficer, so Str and Con are your holy grail. Dex helps with Range touch attacks from wands or throwing things. Int is your best friend as well sense you can be the party rogue if required. So I would say Wis and cha is a dump stat. So if you go for another gnome. Go this route for distribution of stats.

Int, con, str, dex, wis, cha.

That I think is the standard melee stat set build for a melee'r type artificer. If your going for range, hen switch str and dex around.

But remember Int and Con is your tea and biscuts.

If you got 7 HP at lvl 6, I suggest you plead with your DM to let you remake the character :D

cha is absolutely necessary for artificer since it's the ability for use magic device which is needed for item activation and item crafting.

Reason I didn't buff up my con is that in a previous campain I had a gnome wizard (have a thing for gnomes and magic) and even at lvl 20 I had more hp than our fighter. So I didn't want to make a copy character but now I see that it was stupid to make a char with such a low con score.

Necropolitan, it's the only way.

I'd second Necropolitan or anything else that lets you reroll HP because of a hit dice change... Necropolitan is probably the cheapest of the bunch, but any undead will do. Becoming a construct in some fashion could also be handy, given that your infusions would be able to affect you then.

It's not a gnome, but at least it's not dead.

Actually, Necropolitan is dead. :D

Undead... a fine yet important difference, sort of like that between a fork and a spork. :P

I must correct you on that Fnep, Cha is USELESS!, If you ask ANYONE! who has played an artificer atleast 3x you will probly get the same or close to the same answer back, "CHA IS USELESS", Int is more important then cha. I have several Artficier Faqs that tells you that.

What would you want more ?, Int which gives you HELLA! more skills at each lvl in several different lvls, OR! a +5 cha bonus to UMD for one skill ?. Personally I would take the +Int FTW. Because you get more skill points, you get to be the rogue, you also get to make your own items, plus with more int you can create more Mundane stuff, For Example.

(If your in a campaign that has every base class alredy and your the one who fights from a range distance, you need to make your own Bow or range weapon. Oh look Craft (Weaponsmithing/Blacksmithing), or maybe Traps to help defend a town ?. Or perhaps you need to taste test potions to see what they are Craft (Alchemy), The Artificer has many uses.)

Every now and then I will play an artificer after much annoyance on my part to the DM. Artificers need the int over all im telling ya, right now I am thinking of an artificer character who loves his wands, he will horde wands no matter what lol. But enough of that.

Read these Faqs, and they will tell you Int is WAY!!!! more important then any Single +5 to UMD from Cha. Thats just plain dumb.

This one isnt a Artificer guide book but it has some interesting pointers from Snow Owl (Archer expert), some of the things she mentions you can make if you got a HIGH! enough int :P.

Again INT! is your friend, not some Single + to 1 skill which is far more useless then a gnome with a 6 con :P

To be honest, I put a 14 in Cha for my artificier, and I am regretting it somewhat. (5th level, no UMD skill boost items)
It's somewhat difficult to succeed on the higher UMD checks required to make homunculi and such.

That being said, you don't need str as much IMHO, due to being able to enhance it fairly easily and having attack options other than melee.
I prefer using magic items and spells as opposed to using buffs and whacking things in melee, but that's personal preference.

I agree it is all about personal prefference.

14 into cha is great, but I personally wouldnt put an 18 into cha, I would put that 18 into int first.
