Hi, New campaign i just started that had all the players pick 5 classes and the DM pick one.. we rolled 1d6 and i got the ARtificer (DM choice). I know notyhing of this class. I read the explanation and i don't really see how its "Spells" can do anything for the party. I can make Homunoclous but i think they cap at 6HD (kinda sucky at lev 10+) we start at lev 5 and must keep class until lev 9. Any help with Feats/Abilitties of the class would be appreciated.

Thanks

Oh boy.

Where to begin?

First you're going to want to read through this thread (at least the first 3 pages)

Unofficial artificers guide:
http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=534502

Once you have your bearings on where you want to go with this class, post back here with the type of artificer you want to play and we'll give you a hand then. Otherwise theres just too much to explain in one post, really. (There are many types of artificers to choose from, each of them have their strengths and weaknesses)

The build in the optimized artificer thread is kinda nerfed since they ruled that siberys marks of making do require Xp to do their mojo.

The initial build, one of several in the thread. That aside, there is still a lot of discussion on the strengths, weaknesses, and the various tactics and styles of Artificer goodness.

True, but I seriously think he should visit the artificer faq before moving onto optimization. Artificer is a complicated class if you don't understand the basic mechanics behind it first, and the author of this thread has said that he doesn't know anything about the artificer, so it should be a good first stop.

Dude, I can give you all the Artificer websites I have, So here.

http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=520855
http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=534502

I have 1 or 2 more, but in short the artificer if done right and depending on the role, can be the most powerfullest and most flexiblest character known to man. I know, my DMs regardless of Ebberron or not lets me play one and I keep trying to get them and even I dont get em, and im facinated bye them. If you have the XP, and the Cash and the time you can make practically any magic item and use any spell known to man threw out the entire game. So whatever book has spells, or magic items, you can pretty much make it. Meaning if you want a haversack of holding you got it, just make it.

Then you stick a dedicated wright or 2 into your bag of holding, spend all the cash, XP, Raw materials and everything on it thats required, then you start the process then you have your dedicated wright finish it, and you can go out and do your adventuring while the item is being made, and the item is still in the bag of holding safe and sound, then bring it out fresh out of the oven when its done :). Now if thats not cool then I dont know WHAT! is :).

Read up on the Artificer VERY! well, because once you get the basics you can do anything known to man. Tho I like the versatility of the artificer, im onto a Archavist Fetish :).

If you go with a Warforge Artificer, and if you do it just right and get the right classes lvled out, and the right feats and such, then you will be a unstoppable machine from HECK!, and that I can tell ya from other ppl telling me the exact same thing :), tho I was to much of a chicken to fully play the destructiveness of the artificer to the fullest :)

But bye lvl 20, they can make use of any spell, or magic item, or craft the magic item known to faerun or eberron.

OH! and craft construct if done right is a godly in the right hands, :). But thats if you wish to go a Crafty type of character and want to make your own construct army LOL.

Thats it, thats all I can remember :)

But Prototype is right, decide whatcha gonna do then type it up on this link you made and we will help ya the best way we know how :), if inferno pheonix posts :), then listen to his godly word or be smited upon thee!.

I thought Caelic was the artificer god
Caelic

Nah. Caelic is a big fan of Artificers--has been since second edition--but Endyminon's guide is much better organized and up-to-date. The Optimized Artificer thread was never supposed to be a comprehensive resource...it just sort of grew into a massive brainstorming session.

Caelic is also vaguely wondering why Caelic is referring to himself in the third person.

Ahem.

As I was saying--E's guide is the best place to start. There's a lot that it doesn't cover, though, so you'll want to look at the other threads as well.

In general, remember:

1. Anything another class can do, Artificer can do better...with the right preparation.
2. 'With the right preparation' is key. If you're caught without your toys, you're in serious trouble.
3. Retain Essence, Metamagic Spell Trigger and the Metamagic Item infusion are your main tools of power.
4. Twin Spell and Persistent Spell boost your power massively.
5. Quicken Spell also boosts your power massively--IF your DM allows it to be applied to wand spells. Some won't.

Ok, im really liking the dual Wand wielding Artificer(nuker Build) but im also into the Craft Construct(which i still dont understand) How can i make these homnuclous powerful? isnt it capped at 6hd?

Well, you could pimp the iron defender, I suppose. But craft construct isn't for the homunculi, those aren't really combat oriented, they're more to help you do things other than combat.

You should instead make effigies or golems.

Hmm, about the dual wand weilder nuker build, believe it or not, its easier just to get dragon prophesier and prophecy artifex and blast twice in a round. Less wasteful too. Also sidesteps the quicken issue Caelic was talking about earlier.

If you take the warforge artificer sub lvl theres a sub lvl that switches craft homolcus with some other ability then later take craft construct, then you should beable to craft both a homulcus, defender, dedicated right, and any other construct familiar, ALSO!, the construct army can be a endless work force with immense power and strength :).
