| Linkrulesx1004-22-06, 03:20 AM | Ok, well I will be playing an Artificer starting from level 3, I have seen some of the brokeness on this board and I am just wondering what are the best was to use an artificer that doesnt have access to unfettered Heroism... I am thinking of taking extend spell, Persistant spell and Power attack... I will be a decent str build that uses his artificing abilities to buff himself, he will wield a 2 handed weapon and smack things. When he reaches level 5 he will pick up 2 uses of the infusion that grants metamagic to a spell trigger item and will then gain Persistant Wraith strike and Divine power and full power attack any enemies he see's. Are there any other Idea's, builds for an artificer that would be good for them? (That doesn't rely on Wand surge) |
| prototype0004-22-06, 03:33 AM | Warforged? |
| Linkrulesx1004-22-06, 03:49 AM | I was actually thinking human for the bonus feat but warforged might work... But I am really thinking human... |
| Pinky's brain04-22-06, 04:19 AM | Persist divine power at level 5? How you plan on doing that? Wand of divine power is a tad expensive. A decent low level combat buff is fist of stone, but Id just cast it instead of persisting it ... and only when you have time to buff, when surprised at low level Id just buff your party members instead. Id go extend, dragon prophesier and rapid infusion. Take persistent as your 4th level bonus feat, and prophecy artifex at 6th. At this level rapid infusion is just handy, and in the future you can always replace it by looking up a psion telepath (psychic reformation). |
| prototype0004-22-06, 04:22 AM | The thing is, warforged melee artificers get a lot of benefits. You get to heal yourself spontaneously, you get to make your own weapons, you get to buff yourself. Its better for optimization. As a human you're stuck relying on your cleric friend for healing (and you will need healing going into melee) or a wand of cure moderate wounds, not as good. prototype00 P.s. look into the 1st and 4th racial sub levels for warforged artificers, basically something for nothing. The Tools of war racial sub level is crazy. Basically it boosts your economic clout by 100%. |
| Linkrulesx1004-22-06, 07:06 AM | WEll the problem is I am not allowed to use any material out of any books I don't have, I might be able to take a spell out but not a racial sub. The only Ebberon book I have access to is the campaign setting, the other books I have include The complete Set of the Complete books (Minus the Psionic), The first three races books, Magic of Incarnum and Spell Compendium... BUt thanks for the tips, out of curiosity, what Ebberon book has the most Artificer goodlyness? |
| prototype0004-22-06, 07:39 AM | From what I've seen, Magic of Eberron has quite a bit as well as Races of Eberron. Sharn has less. prototype00 |
| Kamikaze Chicken04-22-06, 10:00 AM | play a human artificer, then dive head first into the renegade mastermaker prc when you can, trust me it comes out very poiwerful, much better than a human or a warforged. i think to that spell carvedsoldier would finish out your pregression nicely. KAMIKAZE! :chicken: |
| Caelic04-22-06, 12:37 PM | Fundamental problem: a meleeficer in the early going can dish it out, but not take it. You have a halfway decent AC, if properly set up, but you're flimsy. Archery is the best bet early on; later, once you have access to Polymorph (or better, Draconic Polymorph) and decent, high-Con forms, you really start to come into your own as a Meleeficer. You won't be lobbing Persistent Divine Power at level 5; that much is all but certain. You're not going to be able to make the wand for yourself, and it's prohibitively expensive just to buy off the shelf. It's just conceivable that you could put a Divine Power in a Spell Storing Item infusion, and do it that way, but it's highly unlikely that your UMD score will be high enough to do so reliably. |
| ressurrector04-22-06, 12:43 PM | From low level, I'm a big fan of playing a Warforged with Adamantine Body. The asf has no effect on using items to cast spells, or infusions. Taking the racial sub level for lvl 1 is also quite nice, and you can get a weapon farmilliar. Plus you can directly use all of your buff/repair infusions on yourself. |
| Pinky's brain04-22-06, 01:16 PM | If you are going to get a new book Im going to have to recommend MoE over RoE. |
| catharz04-22-06, 02:14 PM | If you are going to get a new book Im going to have to recommend MoE over RoE. RoE is for Warforged, MoE is for humans. Anyway, one important issue for playing an artificer from low levels is how to use your craft reserve. I'd suggest making scrolls of 0th-level spells for your very low levels, before you have the skill bonus to make anything worthwhile. Then just reclaim all the XP when you hit 5th level. |
| Pinky's brain04-22-06, 03:42 PM | I dunno ... yes, the racial substitution levels are nice but the neither the infusions nor the warforged feats/prcs are all that. Im never too concerned about XP for crafting, only the weapon familiar I really like. And unfettered heroism of course, but it's only MoE which makes it really good :/ Especially in a campaign where cheese like persistent is allowed Id still take MoE over RoE even if I played a warforged ... minor schemas don't have the rules problems of custom staffs, prophecy artifex is just insanely good etc. There's just more stuff in it. |
| Linkrulesx1004-22-06, 10:25 PM | Yeah, the problem with the one I want to do which is The Unfettered heroism and wand suge combo is that I dont any of those 2 books which they are in and at this place I would be playing it you have to OWN the book, not just have the page photocopied which is really annoying, So I am looking for something that can be Optimal with the Only Ebberon book being the Campaign setting. Don't get me wrpng they all seem like good Idea's its just that I don't have the Races and Magic of Ebberon books and are unable to use them... The reason I am on here is that this place where I play is very RAW, It doesn't matter how broken it is they will allow it if you have the books... The DM would Allow Pun Pun if you had the books to make him... |

Oh ya, I forgot the Schemae were there. MoE, hands down ;) |
| prototype0004-23-06, 12:25 AM | Well, even by Eberron campaign setting alone (You're allowed to use complete books, right?) the warforged is seriously the best choice for the melee artificer. You get to heal yourself and buff yourself, what more could you want? Otherwise a fair number of buffs that artificers get for constructs will be totally wasted. That and your healing will be sub-optimal as a human artificer, you at most can use a staff of healing or a wand of CMW. Renegade mastermaker is always an option, but as you said no side books. Just my thoughts. |
| Linkrulesx1004-23-06, 12:38 AM | Well it seems Im sold on Warforged if I'm being a Fighterficer but what feats should I take, and at what level whould I end up with persistant spell? And is Human a better choice for playing a Blastificer or should I still be warforged? |
| prototype0004-24-06, 03:52 AM | Hmm, some say that the wand sheathe make the warforged ok for blastificiers, but I always thought that the ability to be a Cannith Wand adept (found in sharn city of towers) made humans the best choice for blastificiers. If you can't access it, I'd say that warforged aren't bad either. prototype00 |
| ressurrector04-24-06, 10:17 AM | Personally I like being able to have a wand allways in hand, however, you can't change it out till the charges run dry, so it's somewhat limited utility at times. To me, however, the warforged with a Magic Missile machine gun arm is too cool a picture to ignore. Complete with clips. |
| hogarth04-24-06, 10:27 AM | RoE is for Warforged, MoE is for humans. Anyway, one important issue for playing an artificer from low levels is how to use your craft reserve. I'd suggest making scrolls of 0th-level spells for your very low levels, before you have the skill bonus to make anything worthwhile. Then just reclaim all the XP when you hit 5th level. I think only a very generous (read: gullible) DM would assume that you didn't use a single item you crafted with your craft reserve on your way up to 3rd level. On the believability scale, that ranks up there with all of the 8 Str, 8 Dex, 8 Con druids who somehow made it to 5th+ level. |
| Atch04-24-06, 10:48 AM | Can you use material from sites like crystalkeep.com? |
| Bloodlust_the_Bold04-24-06, 01:39 PM | just because you wear wand sheathes doesn't mean you can't hold on to wands since your hands are still free ... If you want to be versatile (i.e. melee and blasting) I'd go for warforged, its artificier substitution levels are good and if your dm allows you to make custom items this has the potential for a lot of power. human is good if you want to focus on say blasting (wand adept) |
| Linkrulesx1004-25-06, 10:04 AM | Ok, well since I dont have access to the book in which he Racial Subs are in that makes that Idea redundant and in reagards to the question about crystalkeep I can only use official DnD books (This doesn't include dragon) that I own, Even if I want to use one page from that book I have to purchase it If I want to use it... A wand sheath of Wraith Strike sounds like fun of the fighterficer... The magic missile cannon also sounds like fun... |
