Artificer with +16 BAB by level 20? [Archive] - Wizards Community

08-30-06, 07:16 PM I was just wondering how you'd go about making an "epic-ready" artificer with +16/+11/+6/+1 base attack bonus by level 20.

The ideas that come to my mind are:

Artificer 16/fighter 2/paladin 2 (for an LG artificer with good charisma)

Artificer 16/fighter 2/hexblade 2 (for a non-good artificer with good charisma)

Artificer 16/hexblade 4 (for a non-good artificer who prefers mettle to bonus feats and heavy armor proficiency -- hexblade 3/fighter 1 would be nice if it didn't involve multiclassing xp penalties)

Artificer 16/fighter 4 (for any artificer)

Naturally, there are other full BAB classes like duskblades, barbarians, knights, rangers, etc, but those don't seem to have the same potential in terms of frontloaded benefits for a two-to-four level dip.

Anyway, though, is there any way to get full BAB while advancing artificer-ness? I've heard of the Renegade Mastermaker, which is allegedly a more combative artificer from Magic of Eberron, but I don't actually have MoE, so I don't know the specifics (like whether it grants full BAB).

I realize that the artificer is better off taking 20 levels, and that BAB isn't really so important for an artificer, but I'm just thinking from the perspective of the artificer as a classical "jack of all trades" class: i.e., 9th level arcane and divine spells, +16 Base Attack Bonus, good skills, etc.

08-30-06, 07:17 PM How about Artificer 20? Just make a wand of divine power and use metamagic item (persistent spell) on it at the beginning of the day.

08-30-06, 07:23 PM This is a bit counterproductive if you're aiming to be epic-ready, though, as you can't start taking epic artificer levels.

If you're going to be doing melee/ranged combat you'll just pop Divine Power anyway. If it absolutely had to be done, I'd consider taking a 5-level full-BAB prestige class so that I could take epic levels in that - but what class is better than Artificer?

edit: actually, that doesn't work either, because you can't take epic levels in a 5-level prestige class. So just don't multiclass out! Renegade Mastermaker is 3/4 BAB and I believe that Cannith Wand Adept is 3/4 as well, so there are really no decent options here.

08-31-06, 01:45 AM I've said it before and I'll say it again: Warforged artificer 14/Spellcarved Soldier 4.

Which still gives you two levels to play around with. Probably artificer 2 unless you want something really special.

And yes, persistant divine power makes it all unnecessary anyway. Have fun.
