Anyone remember the artificer build that was doin hundreds of damage average at lvl 9?

The gist of it goes like this, though I can't find the link.
Level 1 : Quicken Spell, Twin Spell
Level 3 : Energy Substitution: Sonic
Level 4 : Energy Admixture: Sonic
Level 6 : Action Surge
Level 8 : Craft: Contingent Spell (Or whatever)
Level 9 : Wand Mastery

You make a wand of scorching ray at caster level nine. Wand mastery means you up the caster level of any wand you wield by two, which means you're firing off rays at CL 11. You use your third (and higher) level infusions for 'Metamagic Item'. Put Quicken, Twin, Admix on the wand. Now you go blast things. As your quickened action, you fire off a twinned, admixed sonic scorching ray (you can use Metamagic Spell trigger for free with Energy Sub) for 6 rays, each doing 8d6 points of damage. (48d6). Now, on your standard action, you fire off another volley (96d6). Then you spend two AP for an action surge, to do /another/ shot. (144d6). This is all sonic damage. You'll be making 18 attack rolls, so odds are that you'll miss once or twice. Ultimately, however, that's a moot point.

EDIT: Using your move action to moon your enemies at some point during this is optional, but recommended.

Books used: PHB, Complete Arcane, Eberron Campaign Setting.

A glitch in this build is that the energy substitution feat in the complete arcane does't allow substitution into sonic.
You can only choose between fire, cold, electricity and acid.
Then again, 144d6 acid damage is still very deadly to most opponents.

Yeah. I tossed that up there before CA. Acid is probably your best choice, now.

Twin Wand Wielder just makes things worse.

The Blastificer? Oh, heck, I still have the original tucked away somewhere. I'll dig it out and repost it.

The key elements, though, are Twin Spell, Quicken Spell, and possibly Energy Admixture (though it's not mandatory.) These feats are used with the Metamagic Item infusion (if there's prep time) or with the Artificer's ability to apply metamagic to wands instantly (if there's no prep time.)

Split Ray has potential to spike the power of the build still further, as does Dual Wand Wielder.

Here's the link. The core Blastificer is about halfway down the first page.

Since I'm actually getting the chance to make this beast of a build and use it - tee hee hee, how would the pricing of the wand work out for creation purposes?

I'm, uh, kind of having a hard time figuring out the "Creating Magic Items" section in the DMG as far as metamagic and wands are concerned.

Well, let's see. A couple of the main staple items in your arsenal should be:

1. Wand of Lesser Acid Orb, CL 7. With Wand Mastery, this hits the damage cap of level 9 and 5d8. With Twin and Quicken, this means you can crank off 20d8 of damage, with no spell resistance and no save possible. Not bad at all for a first level wand. This is likely to be your main weapon at lower levels. Cost to you, prior to artificer discounts: 2625 GP, 210 xp.

2. Wand of Scorching Ray, CL 9. With Wand Mastery, this hits CL 11, and the maximum of three bolts. With Twin and Quicken, you can pump out 48d6 worth of fire bolts; with EA added in, you inflict at least 72d6. This will vary, depending on how your DM chooses to apply metamagic feats; the 72d6 figure assumes that both Twin and EA reference the base spell, and thus each only adds 3 more bolts to the total. Cost to you: 6750 GP, 540 xp.

Of course, you should also get hold of Persistent Spell as quickly as possible, and supplement your bang-sticks with Wands of Divine Power, Divine Favor, Scales of the Lizard, and just about any other nice low-level persistent spell you can think of. I have a fairly extensive list compiled; I think it may be in the thread I linked to somewhere.
