| ancalimohtar03-02-05, 01:57 PM | Except for Barbarian. In your career as an adventurer, if you ever want to use "rage," you'll have to take a level of barbarian. At least with turning, sneak attack, arcane/divine spellcasting, wildshaping, bardic music, or any of a dozen special abilities associated with the base classes, you could get it by some roundabout means. Some prestige class, or maybe some feat, would get you what you wanted. Not with Rage, apparently. The Singh rager gets a similar ability, but not called "rage," and not in 3.5, so it technically doesn't qualify for certain prestige classes. Someone prove me wrong. I've spent the past hour looking through my books. |
| Axle_Steelcat03-02-05, 01:59 PM | Unearthed Arcana - Druid Varient 3.5 |
| carnivore03-02-05, 01:59 PM | chameleon........ mimic class ability :D |
| Lavis Knight03-02-05, 02:02 PM | Raging Monk ^_^ Dragon magazine Variant. Seems to me i have also come across alot of different things that grant rage. |
| Max Overload03-02-05, 02:05 PM | Half-Orc Paragon 2 gains Rage 1/day. Eye of Gruumsh gains Rage as well. |
| PhoenixInferno03-02-05, 02:06 PM | Singh Rager from Oriental Adventures. |
| ancalimohtar03-02-05, 02:06 PM | Alright, so except for some optional variants in UA and DRG, Chameleon and Eye of Gruumsh are the only one who can. And they both have racial requirements. But good finds. I skipped over them accidentally because the character I'm building is of neither race. |
| Sang-Drax03-02-05, 02:07 PM | Yeah, but none from WOTC books - and no variant stuff like UA. DMs usually don't accept Dragon Magazines or UA. |
| Lavis Knight03-02-05, 02:11 PM | Dragon mag and UA are both 100% official DnD products. Like anything the Dm will always get to rule what is included and what is not. The Dm could say no Fighters or Paladins, or no magic. We can just give you official examples, it is up to you to decide whether to use them or not. Although i can understand that some people may be leary about some variants... i always thought that there was a domain that granted you rage once a day i must be thinking of the spell. -Lavis |
| lostone03-02-05, 02:12 PM | IDHTBWM but I thought Runescarred Berserker gave Rage. Or is that Frenzy? |
| ancalimohtar03-02-05, 02:14 PM | IDHTBWM but I thought Runescarred Berserker gave Rage. Or is that Frenzy? They also require rage. |
| allenchan03-02-05, 02:20 PM | Half-Orc Paragon is nice because it can be any alignment. |
| Blue2303-02-05, 02:22 PM | The Loxo get rage. They're a race in one of the recent WotC sourcebooks. Dragon mag and UA are both 100% official DnD products. Like anything the Dm will always get to rule what is included and what is not. The Dm could say no Fighters or Paladins, or no magic. "100% official DnD products" is somewhat misleading. Dragon isn't owned by Wizards, which makes it 3rd party no matter how closely Piazo works with Wizards. I'll buy UA is 100% official, it just happens not to contain one official rule. Rather it explicitly contains variant rules. It's good to point out these sources, lots of people use them. But saying that disallowing dragon mag or variant rules from UA is the same as disallowing core classes and rules from the PHB is a bit of a stretch. Cheers, =Blue |
| Lavis Knight03-02-05, 02:23 PM | Ah yes! The Passion Domain, i believe it is from Ebberon grants you Rage. Although it would be a little bit of a stretch to say it qualifies as Barbarian Rage but it works well. |

In my opinion comparing Dragon Magazine to Swords and Sorcery is a bit of a stretch. |

As far as I know, all other prcs that has them require Turn Undead as a prereq, so I don't think anything gives them out either. I'd be glad to be proven wrong. I just wasn't sure. |
| lostone03-02-05, 02:41 PM | Dragon Magazine may be 100% official and sanctioned, but they are also quite often unbalanced and unplaytested. Sure a few gems find their way into official WotC products, such as the ninja in complete adventurer, but it's very hit and miss, just about every obnoxiously overpowered thing in my groups games has been from Dragon magazine, so we don't allow it in our group anymore. |

To be fair i think many of the unbalanced builds i have seen on this board did not use any Dragon material at all ^_^; |
| ancalimohtar03-02-05, 02:58 PM | Tenken: Master of Radiance (LM, requires daylight spell), Sacred Exorcist (CD, requires dismissal or dispel evil), Ur-Priest (CD, only rebuking), Apostle of Peace (BOED, requires like 4 Vow feats), and probably some others. |
| lostone03-02-05, 03:00 PM | To be fair i think many of the unbalanced builds i have seen on this board did not use any Dragon material at all ^_^;True, but many of the most unbalanced builds are dipping into classes and taking feats and races from an obnoxious number of books, and/or using combinations of classes that don't really go together from a roleplay standpoint. Which is also something many DMs I know wouldn't allow |
| ancalimohtar03-02-05, 03:01 PM | To be fair i think many of the unbalanced builds i have seen on this board did not use any Dragon material at all ^_^;Please don't say such obviously meaningless things. If Drg material were considered canon by the vast majority of posters, you would clearly see many many more unbalanced builds. The existence of broken things now doesn't mean something else isn't more broken. |

What we DO know is that there are plenty of broken builds from the other books, i wouldn't go as far to say that Dragon mags are MORE broken, espcially seeing the capabilities of many of the builds that we are already capable of without them. |
| rilem03-02-05, 04:11 PM | Hida Defender (Oriental Adventures from WotC) grants rage at level 2. Moto Avenger (also OA) also grants a rage-like ability, I think. Bane of Infidels (Masters of the Wild) can cause people to go into a barbarian rage (including themselves, I imagine; can't recall) |
| PhaedrusXY03-02-05, 04:24 PM | Not with Rage, apparently. The Singh rager gets a similar ability, but not called "rage," and not in 3.5, so it technically doesn't qualify for certain prestige classes.Oriental Adventures has been updated to 3.5 in Dragon 318. And a reasonable DM would interpret the Singh Rager's ability as the same as rage. It does exactly the same thing, uses the exact same mechanics, and the freakin class is named Singh Rager for Christ's sake. I remember getting into arguments on here over this in the past, and I was amazed that there were people who actually said they wouldn't count it as rage in a game they were DMing. Also, the Gut Worm fiendish symbiont from the Fiend Folio grants Rage at will with no fatigue afterwards, and some of the fiends have the ability to rage (barbed devil?). Since it is an Ex ability, if you polymorph into one of them you get it. |
| Part-Human203-02-05, 04:42 PM | Rage via Race Baphitaur (UD) Loxo (MMII) Quaggoth (MoF) |
| rilem03-02-05, 04:49 PM | Gutworm, good call. Forgot about that one. And yes, the Bearded Devil has a Frenzy ability that's identical to Barbarian rage. I'll second the Singh Rager argument — it's plainly a rage ability. And, of course, there's the Sohei's Frenzy ability, which specifically qualifies for Bear Warrior, for example. And as noted, OA has been updated for 3.5 — in a Dragon article, mind you, but by the original OA author. I suspect many DMs would allow such material, even if they don't allow Dragon generally. There's also the Battle Howler of Gruumsh (Dragon) which doesn't seem to require Rage but offers "+1 rage/day" |
| Jeremymc03-02-05, 07:08 PM | Why don't you just be an anthropomorphic wolverine. Seems rage-ful to me. Or far more stupidly, you could have like... a symbiotic badger, and tap into it's rage... I dunno. |
