There will be two other characters, a Druid/Sorcerer and a Fighter/Warmage. We are starting at level 4. Allowed are, in addition to core, the complete sets and the PHB2 as well as select stuff from Unearthed Arcana. I was thinking about writing up an Assassin-like character and the idea of a Beguiler/Sneak Attack Fighter came to mind. Good Attack progression, casting in light armor, deceptive spells, D10 hitpoints and rogue sneak attack progression, as well as all but a handfull of skills make this combo very appealing in my eyes. Unfortunately its also lacking in a few things: Evasion and Feats. I would really want to go the twohanded fighting route, maybe become a dervish later, but tempest is probably out of the question due to the high feat requirement. I was looking for help regarding feat and later class selection as well as attribute distribution. My initial idea was Human with something like STR 10, DEX 18, CON 12, INT 16, WIS 10, CHA 14, weapon finesse, two weapon fighting and expeditious dodge, but I'm not set on that. Thanks in advance for your insight! |

If I was you I'd take 4 levels of Rogue instead (which gets you Evasion and Uncanny Dodge at a loss of a few hp and 1 BAB) and then head into Prestige Classes that advance sneak attack and/or have full BAB (e.g. Invisible Blade (CWar - though the errata and stupid feat prereqs make it a less attractive choice), Nightsong Enforcer (CAdv), Scarlet Corsair (Stormwrack), etc). Something like Beguiler 20 // Swashbuckler 3 / Rogue 4 / Invisible Blade 5 / Dervish 8 might be a good start (BAB +20, Sneak Attack +5d6, Dervish Dance, Insightful Strike, free action feints with daggers). Beguiler is alright on one sde of a Gestalt, since the class abilities make it worth keeping til 20th, but you will lack ray spells with which to sneak attack. For feats, you'll want Arcane Strike. f you're not set on using PrCs on the Rogue/Fighter side then slipping in a level or two of Prestige Bard (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/classes/prestigiousCharacterClasses.htm#prestige Bard), that way you can qualify for Snowflake Wardance (Frostburn). I'd also consider Whisper Gnome (Races of Stone) as an option. Not only are the skill bonuses very good, it also gets +2 Dex and +2 Con, as well as letting you qualify for Shadowcraft Mage (which is awesome). PS - Druid/Sorcerer & Fighter/Warmage? Maybe you should send those 2 players here as well... |

Sneak attack isn't that great really. There are so many things immune to it. The higher level you get the more useless it becomes... |
