| moonwolf03-29-06, 02:52 PM | Hi, I want to make a lawful evil elven assasin , wich is good at deception, i was thinking about starting out with ninja because of the flavour, or is there a better class for deceiving people? and is there any item or feat wich i can use to make my alignment look like it's good, in case we get a paladin in our party? |
| UMiskatonic03-29-06, 04:15 PM | Sure. cast undetectable alignment, get a ring of mind shielding, or carry around a lead sheet to prove your manhood (thanks to Belkar for that last one) |
| brdxtrm03-29-06, 06:13 PM | do you have any other ideas? do you want to go for two-weapon fighting, or does the one-strike, one-kill route appeal to you? Do you want to utilize the actual Assassin class or is there possibly another route you want to take? Considering that you want to go in a deception kind of route I'd probably say try changeling as far as race but that is in Eberron and I don't know what books you can use. So, what books are you allowed and what level are you starting at? |
| Pellanor03-29-06, 06:22 PM | Also how do you want to deceive your opponents? Do you want to use illusionary magic to make them think they see something different than what's actually there? Do you want to be good at lying and disguising and other social skills? Do you want to be good at feinting in combat? Also, if you take the first level in the Spymaster PrC (Complete Adventurer) you get the extrodanary ability of an undetectable alignment. This is better than a spell or item because it can't be dispelled, and still works in an anti-magic zone. |
| moonwolf03-30-06, 10:57 AM | Well I actually want to be able to fool my opponents(and party) with my skills so that they think that i'm much weaker than i am, and I like the death attack of the assasin class because then I can just wield a normal dagger, and because it progresses the sneak attack wich i get from my ninja levels, but two weapon fighting with daggers also sounds like alot of fun, so what social skills/feats should i go for, also i'll probally be starting out at level 1, so what are the most important things to have at that level? *edit* dont i need quickdraw for the leadsheet? |
| Pellanor03-30-06, 03:48 PM | One trick for seeming weaker than you are: Always fight defensivley. Make sure you tell your DM about this ahead of time so that he knows, but don't bother telling your fellow players. THey'll get used to the idea of you not hitting very often, so if you ever need to, you can be an accurate ninja. Especially if you use True Strike. One feat I would recomend is Ability Focus(Death Attack). This will bost the DC by two. Otherwise the TWF Rogue/Ninja is generally a good combo. You may want to look into the Invisible Blade and Master Thrower Prestige classes (from Complete Warrior). Both are only 5 levels long and work good with a dagger weidler. IB is better at melee where as MT is better at range. You could probably go Ninja 5, Assassin 10, IB OR MT 5 for a fairy solid build. One thing I suggest before commiting yourself to Ninja. Take a look at Nthe Low Level (1-5) Ninja abilities and compare these to the Rogue abilities. Now ask yourself "Which of these will be most useful at low levels?" and "Which of these will remain useful if I only ever take 5 levels in the class?". Once you compare the two, you can probably come up with a decent idea of which you'd prefer. Also, if you want to be really dirty, take 3 levels of rogue, 1 level of Ninja and 1 level of Spell Thief, for a SA of +4d6 at level 5. You can switch around which class you take the 3 level in to find the one you like best. Oh yeah, don't forget that a Ninja's Sudden Strike isn't as good as a standard Sneak Attack as it doesn't apply when you're flanking (unless your opponent is also denied his dex bonus to AC). Hope that helps. |
| moonwolf04-03-06, 01:57 PM | Wel, i think i sorta figured it out. race: changeling alignment lawful evil level 1:changeling rogue substitution level feat:? level 2:rogue level 3:changeling rogue substitution level feat:? skill focus(bluff) level 4: spellthief level 5: ninja level 6: spymaster feat:? level 7: assasin level 8-20? main skills: bluff, diplomacy, disguise, gather information, move silently, open lock, sense motive and hide. does this look like it could work? and, could somebody tell me what feats are best to take at levels 1 and 6, because i cant figure it out. |
| swanyusd04-03-06, 02:23 PM | Combat expertise would be a good one. It fits with always fighting defensively to fool your party. Just fight defensively with a full combat expertise. Improved combat expertise next, but I forget what level you can take that one. Two-weapon fighting to finish it off, if you want to fight with 2 daggers. |
| moonwolf04-03-06, 06:46 PM | also, would the darkspech be a good feat to take at level 9?(can get it at level 6 but then i get the spymaster level at level 7 :weep: ) and what about the barbed dagger? is the +2 damage worth taking a feat, and spending 5 skillpoints? and does the deft strike feat stack with the quick reconnoiter feat? cause that could have some real potential i think. I could take skill focus at level 1, weapon finesse at level 3, quick reconnoiter at level 6, and deft strike at level 9, or is there a better feat combination for trickery/combat? |
| jedrious04-03-06, 10:53 PM | my group and I were talking the other night about how to make the best professional "assassin", we actually decided on a Telepath3/Wizard3/Cerebremancer4/Mindmage10 specializing on using Mind Switch to swap between different bodies and framing your host for the gruesome, very public murder using your wizarding powers from the host to deflect any suspicion that the lonely psion with his quartz collection(alternate medium spellbooks) could have anything to do with the murder |

Fun thing to note, unless you use fractional base attack bonus, your BAB will only be a +2 at level 7, makeing you less skilled in combat than a wizard. |

| swanyusd04-04-06, 02:09 PM | unfortunately deft strike does not stack with quick reconnoiter. They are separate types of actions, even though they are "spot actions". The wording of deft strike says you take a standard action and make spot check, not make a spot check. It's a good idea, but it doesn't work. |
| moonwolf04-05-06, 12:11 PM | Fun thing to note, unless you use fractional base attack bonus, your BAB will only be a +2 at level 7, makeing you less skilled in combat than a wizard. The changeling rogue substitution level has e BaB of +3 at level 3, making me yust as skilled in combat as a wizard :D but isn't there a way to make it higher? (permanentely) |
| jedrious04-05-06, 01:28 PM | Why that sounds absoultly amazing, tell me would it be possible for wizard to control more than one person (possibly using dominate person on another subject) at a time? only if you took the appropriate powers/spells in either your mind or your book |
