| b3jsd73jfx02-01-06, 03:49 AM | Here's my current character but i'm kind of at a loss as to where I should head from here... Strength: 11 Dexterity: 21 Constitution: 16 Intelligence: 15 Wisdom: 10 Charisma: 10 Race: Halfling HP: 59 Classes (Levels): Rogue (3), Fighter (2), Shadowdancer (2), Assassin (2) Skills Rundown: Mainly bluff, disable device, hide, move silently, sleight of hand, and tumble Feats: Dodge, Weapon Finesse, Combat Reflexes, Spring Attack, Two-Weapon Fighting, Mobility Spells: Obscuring Mist, True Strike, Feather Fall Any ideas? |
| Hellspawn02-01-06, 04:16 AM | Feat prequisites for the shadowdancer are Dodge, Combat Reflexes and Mobility! (http://www.systemreferencedocuments.org/35/sovelior_sage/shadowdancer.html) I would change "quicker than the eye", "improved initiative" and "quick draw" into "dodge", "mobility" and "spring attack". Another good Feat ist "dark stalker" (LoM), lets you stay hidden against ALL creatures (even with lifesight or tremorsense) |
| b3jsd73jfx02-01-06, 04:29 AM | Wow... I really don't know how I missed that (or my DM for that matter haha). Thanks for that little tidbit! Also, could you explain the bonus of spring attack? I never understood how that 5' area can effect you so much... |
| Hellspawn02-01-06, 07:37 AM | Spring attack lets you move before and after an attack action. So you can move in and out of the opponents reach after your attack. Since Dodge and mobility are the prequisites you will have little problems with attacks of opportunity (+6AC). This feat is quite powerfull (therefore the Feat prequisites)! |
| b3jsd73jfx02-01-06, 07:55 AM | But can't they just take a move and attack? |
| sleepydeath02-01-06, 08:18 AM | why you take shadowdancer? if you want shadow jump, take assassin 8or9 and the take the teflamar shadowlord prc. |
| WombleHunter02-01-06, 09:12 AM | Since you are a halfling, check out the Whisperknife PrC in Races of the Wild. |
| b3jsd73jfx02-01-06, 06:36 PM | Except for this is already made, as in I have this character in play. Changing classes at this point is kind of out of the question. I'm just wondering where to go. |
| PhaedrusXY02-01-06, 07:20 PM | After you get your feats sorted out... you might consider taking enough levels of Shadowdancer to get Shadow Jump, or enough levels of Assassin to get Dimension Door, and then going into Teflemmar Shadowlord, as already suggested. It is in the Unapproachable East book, and is "that good". If you can use it, I'd also suggest swapping over to a "blunt" chain weapon. It is like the spiked chain, but does a bit less damage. The main advantage of it is that you can use it either as a reach weapon, or as a double weapon. With that and Combat Reflexes, you'll soon see the benefit of Spring Attack. Tactics would be: Spring Attack in and hit them, then back out. Hold the chain as a 2-handed weapon for reach during this. When they close to counter-attack, you'll get an AoO on them. Then you can either swap to two-weapon style with the chain, or hit them once and Spring Attack away again, depending on if you want to be more defensive or offensive, and whether you have a flanking partner or not, etc. The Rokugan Ninja gives you proficiency with the "blunt" chain at first level I think, as well as +1d6 SA and +1 BAB. It is in the Rokugan Campaign Setting book. There is a link to an assassin build combining alot of this stuff in my sig. |
| b3jsd73jfx02-01-06, 07:54 PM | Ok, that's a nice looking run through. I've never heard of the "unnaproachable east book" and have yet to see it anywhere... but i'm sure I can see that class information online somewhere. Thanks a lot guys! |
| b3jsd73jfx02-02-06, 03:19 AM | Ok, found that class and it looks nice. I have to wait until level 12 to take it though due to needing blind fight. So for now i'll continue as is and increase my shadowdancer level until I get shadowjump. But the only problem is, when you mention that chain, I need to take an EWP in Chain. This means I can't use it until 15... is it really worth it? |
| Hellspawn02-02-06, 03:50 AM | i would'nt go for more levels shadowdancer. I think lev2 is just the right dip into this class (you get hide in plain sight and a whole bunch of feats in lev2). Try to advance as assasin wich gives you spells (dim door is better than shadowjump anyway) and assasin levels for death attack dc. |
| b3jsd73jfx02-02-06, 05:11 AM | Yeah, I was kind of thinking the same thing... but that means waiting for level 7 of assassin. Is it worth the wait? And since you seem to know the assassin style build pretty well, what's your take on the chain combo mentioned above? |
| Hellspawn02-02-06, 07:20 AM | Hmmm... i think the spiked chain is a little overpowered. You have to sacrifice a Feat for it though... The chain ist something for a less subtle approach. But since you are going the sneaky route i would stick with one or two kukris. And i don't know i you are allowed to use your death attack with a spiked chain (I would rule that this weapon lacks some accuracy). Your tactic should look like this: move hidden next to your enemy (try to flank) , attack (add sneak dice) and Hide again. Normaly this would be impossible, but with spring attack you can move after hitting your target the rest of your base movement. to hide yourself is a move action, so you can hide after your attack right in front of your prey (thanks to "hide in plain sight"). |
| b3jsd73jfx02-02-06, 07:34 AM | That's the plan I was going for. Thanks a lot for all the help guys, got it pretty well figured out now! |
