I remember a Scout Assassin build on the wizzy website, but for the life of me I can't find it. I've searched everywhere I can think, and really spent way to much time looking. It had a really nice drawing that I wanted to steal, if nothing else. Anyone have a link? Am I crazy?

On top of that, I would like some help building a sneaky "shoot from the trees and disappear" type archer. I know that a ring of invisibility is often better than HiPS, but I would like to incorporate that and Camo if possible. Thus Scout becomes a very desirable class I would imagine. The problem I'm finding is that I like Scout 20. Hard to fit Assassin into that. :)

Do I even need levels of Assassin? Death Attack and the Spells are awesome, but Skirmish and the Hide abilities are pretty hot as well. I've looked at some great Assassin builds, but they tend to be built around melee instead of ranged. TShadowlord would be pretty nice, I mean come on. Who doesn't like Dimension Door?

It would be nice to have Tumble maxed out as well, so I can take 10' moves as 5' steps. I figure this character would want as much mobility as possible, to take advantage of Skirmish, Woodland Stride, Camo, etc.

Changling is a nice race for Assassins, but I'm not sure it would be as useful in the woods. Still a good choice though, as that kind of disguise ability is always handy.

Books allowed are pretty much everything except: FR, Dragon mag, Tome of Magic, Heroes of ***, or 3rd party.

Thanks in advance.

While I'm a big fan of the assassin, I'm not at all sure what you are asking for. You ask if you need levels of assassin. I ask "Need them for what?"

Here's a build: Scout 5/assassin10/scout 5

Feats: Dodge/Mobility/Spring Attack/Darkstalker
Skills: Hide/Move/Tumble

You'll be able to spring, attack once, and spring back. Use your move action to change position, and hide as part of that move. Movement allows skirmish, and you add sneak attack if they don't see you.

If you add in shot on the run and the Sniper's Shot spell, you can do this with a bow for any targets within 60ft. I'm not sure why you would, but it'll work just fine.

If you want to have crazy skills, and don't mind losing more BAB, take exemplar.

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the assassin require Sneak Attack? As per the side bar on page 8 of the ninja could qualify since Sudden Strike and Sneak attack are interchangable when qualifying for feats and PrCs, however their is not such comment listed for the scout.

Have I tottally missed something? Does the Assasin not require SA?

Yes, you missed it.

Hide 8, Move 8, Disguise 4, kill somebody, that's what it takes.

I personally feel that ranger and monk lead into assassin more usefully than rogue does.

Well, there's a difference between an assassin, and taking levels in the Assassin PrC. I was asking if levels in Assassin were advantageous over more Scout levels.

Let me put it this way: if you were to make a totally awesome woodland sniper, what build would you use? I figured that Skirmish is great for sniping, especially when you can move through the terrain at full speed while hiding/invisibile. This adds to the fun, because you can snipe from multiple directions confusing the hell out of the prey.

Also, do you get Skirmish from Dimension Door/Teleporting, or is that like being mounted?

Sorry if I seem stupid about the classes, I left all my books at a friend's. I need to get those back, it's not like he pours over them like I would be doing.

Well, I would like to focus on archery as opposed to melee.

Ahh Exemplar. Interesting idea, I'll toy with it a little. I'm hesitant though, because BAB is a hot commodity.

Any luck finding that damn picture? :)
