| wookibus01-11-07, 02:25 PM | I am trying to make an an assassin as a BBEG, and am trying to figure out how to make him as nasty as possible. I am not sure of race, but for class I was thinking either rogue or bard(darksun). The prestige classes I have found that deal with poison are the poisonmaster(darksun) and poisoner(dragon). Anyone have some recommendations? Thanks. |

Whey isn’t there a place were you can role play with people all around the world, and discus thing concerning Forgotten Realms? Now such a place exist. You can make absolutely insane amounts of plant-based poison for free using that. (I mean insane as in almost 3000 doses at level 3 for one power point). Make sure to give him some way to deliver it all in a short amount of time (tons of shuriken ala Machine Gun Rogue, Telekinetic Thrust to throw 15 vials at once, Leadership, etc). The good thing (from a DM perspective) is that all of it is temporary, so the PCs can't go sell it for a hodjillion dollars after they defeat the BBEG. |

One adds 1 save DC (meh) but the other adds +1 damage per die which I think could be useful, but then I haven't really used poisons that often. Also you should try to get some save sinkers into there too. The simplest way to do this would probably be a mage lackey or maybe a Hexblade. |
| Cavalry_Medic01-11-07, 07:42 PM | In order to optimize a poison user, one must address three elements: 1) Cost of poison. Straight out of the books, poison seems to be cost-prohibitive for most campaigns. This can be addressed with various creation magics, the craft skill, harvesting from poisoned creatures. 2) Efficacy of poison. In many cases, poison DCs aren't high enough to be reliable. This can be addressed with a few spells (notably those that inflict the shaken condition, curses & negative levels, the hostile-side of prayer, inflicting Constitution damage, blackguard aura, hexblade curse, alternative hexblade familiar and the intimidate skill. There is at least one feat in Complete Scoundrel to address this subject as well. I recommend overkill in this arena. 3) Delivery. One must be careful in addressing the first two points, that one maintains a reliable attack roll with which to deliver the poison. Fortunately, the assassin PrC comes with true strike, mitigating much of this concern. Now then, onto a build... I'm sure someone else here can improve upon this, but for a primary-poison character, I'm partial to a hexblade (alternate familiar) / blackguard 3ish / assassin. Human paragon might be necessary prior to PrClassing to alleviate some of the pain of the skill requirements. I'd try to be very good at intimidate & poison crafting. Happy poisoning :) |
