Assistance with PsiWar please [Archive] - Wizards Community

So I have a character concept that I am interested in...but it isn't very optimal...infact it might be as suboptimal as a 20th level healer...but I am very excited about it and think it is a good rp oppurtunity...so I was thinking maybe the boys at CO could help me make it closer to a normal PC.

What I am wanting to do is make an Elan that is very weak and insecure about getting hurt. Essentially a PsiWar that will eventually go into the Sangehirn PrC that is detailed here (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/psm/20040625c).

So the issues? Well Snagehirn requires 9 ranks in heal, which is not on the PsiWar class list...so how do I get that many ranks without waiting until 12th level to take it? I was thinking a different class, but elan's favored class is Psion which is so weak if I am going to be focusing on PsiWar.

Anyways...what are your guy's thoughts?

I will post more later, but right now I am really tired and am going to bed.

12-01-06, 10:29 PM Why are you playing a psiwar instead of a psion if your whole character concept is that he's afraid to get hurt? A psion can stay back and blast/control/summon without getting in the thick.

12-02-06, 12:47 AM Well the Sangehirn does get some DR, right? Not a terrible option for a melee class.

As far as Heal, I'm sure there are some feats that grant it to you as a class skill. Otherwise, dip into a class that has it.

I wouldn't mind doing that...but are there any thoughts on which class would be good to do the dip?

Also if there is a feat out there that adds heal as a skill to my class list please let me know what it is. That would be an ideal solution.

In answer to the other question. He is self concious about others picking on him, so he focuses on making himself stronger.

12-02-06, 01:34 PM So I researched Crystal Keep...the only 2 feats that I could see that would make Heal an inclass skill for me are Able Learner which I don't qualify for as an Elan unless I can convince my DM that Elan's have human heritage since they are all made from humans...maybe, but it's a DM call thing...

The other possibility is Draconic Heritage (Gold) but that would require a level dip into Sorc which is not cool...especially since it would incur exp penalties and is not a good mix with PsiWar.

The only other option that I see readily available to me is to take a 1 level dip into a Psion(Egoist) which still does not seem very optimal or a level of Ardent (which still imposes the exp penalty) or some other class which is gonna give me Heal as a class skill, which at that point I might as well try to find a good front loaded base class so that one or two levels of it will do something to somewhat counterbalance the exp penalty I am going to suffer. Any other thoughts guys?

12-02-06, 02:24 PM Ranger isn't bad, it gives heal and Track. You may need the latter for Slayer later.

12-02-06, 02:28 PM There's also Cosmopolitan (which is from the forgotten realms books) and Versatile (whose source I cannot recall at the moment). Cosmopolitan gives you one skill in-class no matter what, and a +2 bonus on said skill. Versatile gives you two skills in-class.

I can't find Versatile on the consolidated feat list...are you sure it isn't third party?

As for Cosmopolitan...it is a definite possiblity, the on in the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting does exactly what you describe...Only problem is that there is another Cosmopolitan in the Player's Guide to Faerun (another FR book) and it does something completely different (+2 to gather information, sense motive, and bluff)...I know the PGoF was published after the FRCS...does that mean that this feat over writes the previous one or are they both valid?

If they are I may take the FRCS Cosmopolitan and consider the problem solved.

12-02-06, 03:20 PM Skill Knowledge from Unearthed Arcana makes a skill a class skill. I think you're better off basing this on an Egoist than a Psiwarrior, anyway, however. Or perhaps Wilder.
