| Voivode06-02-04, 06:27 PM | Although I haven't had any experience of it in-game, it seems to me that astral projection is a pretty handy spell, and the sort of thing high-level characters might want to be using all the time. However, it would seem that a character can get access to astral projection for himself and his party from level 12, by simply taking the Leadership feat and getting a Nightmare companion (ECL 10). The Nightmare can use astral projection as a supernatural ability at will, and the MM says it functions just like the spell. Even better, it functions at caster level 20. This theoretically allows the Nightmare to use astral projection on itself and 10 other willing party members, familiars, animal companions etc. As if that wasn't enough, the Nightmare can use etherealness on itself and another 6 allies at will, lasting 20 minutes each time. Oh, and of course, the Nightmare is a flying mount and a pretty solid melee fighter to boot. Any thoughts? |
| Lorimo the Disbeliever06-03-04, 07:50 AM | Zhentarim Skymage from Lords of Darkness book can gain access to Nightmare at clvl six. There is also a spell in BoVD (Call Nightmare). Aahh, old 3.0 tricks :) |
