| Moon-Lancer08-15-04, 05:40 PM | is it possible to create a sword made of aurorum, then enchant it with metalinment and then change it to glass steel. Aurorum (base meteral) makes the weapon snap back together if broken, and metalinment makes the weapon magicly turn into another metal type(+2 enchantment). Glass steel has a +2 enchanment to weapons right off the bat. if my weapon was already a +10 would it not work or would i have to leave a +2 free. would it even work at all? |
| Fwib08-15-04, 05:58 PM | If you have a weapon that is already +10 then adding another +2 would make it +12 and thus Epic and very expensive. You would need a very kind DM to let you change the base material of a pre-existing weapon (Wish spell?) If that was what you meant by 'already + 10' I dont have the book that the Metalline enhancement is from with me at the moment, but I think it only allows metals - in that case, does glassteel count as a metal? You might want to look at this thread: Metalline is the best weapon enhancement ... period. (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=289375) |
| Moon-Lancer08-15-04, 06:49 PM | i dont think you understand or i was not clear. metalinment is a +2enchantment that lets you change your weapon to other meterals for free. How would that work with glassteel? lets say i have a +10 thats made of Aurorum. then i wish to to morph it into glass steel. Would it then become a +12 weapon even if im lets say, level 18 |
| Balthanon08-15-04, 07:04 PM | Assuming you're still playing 3.0 where adamantine weapons had a non-magical enhancement bonus, the +2 from a heavy weapon wouldn't stack with a magical enhancement bonus. If you have a +2 or higher base enhancement the +2 from the weapon being glasssteel would do nothing, if you have a +1 weapon with +9 in special abilities, then the weapon would effectively have a +2 to attack and damage rather than your regular +1 to attack and damage. If you're in 3.5, then none of that applies at all. Glassteel is essentially a combination of adamantine and mithril and should probably bypass hardness less than 20 automatically basically and possibly adamantine damage reduction. |
| Moon-Lancer08-15-04, 07:17 PM | Thanks. So turning it into class steel using Mettaline in 3.5 doesent work or doesent really make it a +12 weapon if its +10 or a +6 into a +8. I really just want to know if making 3.5 glassteel is ok to do in 3.5 and if i have to worry about the +2 enchantment or what? |

| Balthanon08-15-04, 07:29 PM | In 3.5 you shouldn't need to worry about the +2 enhancement information in the glasssteel description. Just look at the properties of adamantine and mithril in the 3.5 DMG and add those to your weapon. So yes, it should be ok (but, as always, your DM has the final word in the matter, so make sure to clear it with him or her.) |
| Moon-Lancer08-15-04, 07:39 PM | thanks agean. I misunderstud but now its much clearer. the dm said it was ok but they are new and i beleave i know more then they do at this point. So im some times weary of the things she may let me do. But i would feel alot better knowing that im following the d&d rules with creative thinking (well other peoples creative thinking) such as the other thread i was reading about that talked about Aurorum steel with the Mettaline and glassteel was mentioned but i dident see anything that said it was ok. then i looked in mimicing glassteel. I looked all over for it then i someone mentioned that it was in races of faerun and i looked it up and found it but it said about the +2 enchantment. So if its not to much trubble may i ask were it talkes about glass steel for 3.5 just so i can see it on paper. if not its good to know what the rules are anyway. THANKS |
| Balthanon08-15-04, 07:55 PM | I don't think they've actually converted glassteel to 3.5 officially (though it might be in the Player's Guide to Faerun). The rules provided for it are based off of adamantine and mithril (if you compare the chart with the one for 3.0 adamantine it should match), however, so an adaption should follow the changes that were made in 3.5 to those two metals. |
| Impeesa08-15-04, 09:32 PM | And cutting out most of that and answering the question in the most straightforward way possible: Follow the basic rules for stacking bonuses. If a weapon has a +3 enhancement bonus to hit and damage from its enchantment, +1 enhancement bonus to hit from being masterwork, and a +2 enhancement bonus to hit and damage from being made of glassteel, then your total bonus is... +3 to hit and damage. Take the highest one. --Impeesa-- |
