| Bard of DorAr02-27-06, 11:55 AM | This didn't work on the specific boards with the specific goal, so we'll go broader. The requirements under this character I'm going for are. Race: Human Classes: Wizard required (At least 1 level). Not nessecarily specialist mage, but focusing on Abjurations. Requirements: Level 9 spells, level 6 Psionic Powers Feats: Great Fortitude, 2 metapsionic feats, 2 metamagic feats. So far the obvious solutions in my mind have been Wizard 1, Psion 3, Cerbremancer 8. (Using the Precocious Apprentice Feat from Complete Arcane). That nets me the level 6 psion powers and puts me well on my way to the 9th level spells. From there, I'm looking for advice on the following. Which Metapsionic and Magic feats would serve best for such a build, what to do with the other 9 levels. Which focus I should take for Psion (Kineticist seems obvious, but maybe there's something I didn't look closely enough at). Thanks in advance for any help. |

Mommy was an Orc disproved this many moons ago (http://www.wizards.com/leaving.asp?url=http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=426386&origin=)That argument was specific to using PA to qualify for Mystic Theurge. The distinction between spells and powers is strong enough to stop that argument from applying to Cerebremancer. As for the psion discpline, I am not a big fan of Kineticists. They do get some nice utility, and Reddopsi, but most of the damage can be duplicated with general powers (my favorite blasting power is Energy Stun). I would suggest an Egoist or Telepath, but Shapers are not bad. The build: Since you are using Precocious Apprentice, you are better off focusing on the psionic side. That would mean something like Wiz 1 / Psi 3 / Cer 10 / Psi +6. This gets you 9th level powers at level 18, two levels earlier than the primarily Wizard build. Feats: Great Fortitude??? I would take any of the following: Precocious Apprentice (needed) Psicrystal Affinity (very nice) Empower, Extend, Quicken Power (the good metapsi feats) Chain, Extend, Empower Spell (good metamagic) Psionic Meditation (needed if you want to use metapsionics) Overchannel (I love it; you might like it too) Expanded Knowledge (a necessary e (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/powers/empathicTransferHostile.htm)v (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/powers/metamorphosis.htm)i (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/powers/reddopsi.htm)l (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/powers/schism)) Improved Initiative (a matter of personal taste) |
| Bard of DorAr02-28-06, 05:29 PM | Actually, it's a false logic, even if his interpretation is right. I'm level 1, I have precocious apprentice. I hit level 3 in my Psion and gain a now empty second level spell (Since I apparantly suddenly lose the knowledge of the second level spell I knew, which is ludicrous on its own). I now have an 2nd level spell slot that is limited because I "can't prepare a spell in it." Cept the only requirements to scribe a found spell into a spellbook are a spellcraft check, and the spellcraft description says nothing about scribing spells of a higher level into your book. So, it all comes down to what the DM allows to be found/studied in game. And this of course STILL requires the rule interpretation to be that you have knowledge erased from your mind for no apparant reason. |
| carnivore02-28-06, 05:31 PM | i agree with psly4mne...but for this..to get 9th level Spells....try this: note: the Arcane side will be stronger....simply because of the way Magic is Already overpowered compared to Psionics Human Wizard 1/ Psion(Shaper or Telepath) 3/ Cerebremancer 10/ Incantatrix 6 9th level Spells 7th lvl Powers Great Fortitude Precocious Apprentice (needed) Psicrystal Affinity ..........bonus from Psion Psicrystal containment Extend Power Extend Spell Persistant Spell ..........bonus from Incantatrix Twin Spell..........bonus from Incantatrix Iron Will Psionic Meditation Quicken Power :D |
| psly4mne02-28-06, 06:40 PM | You know, carnivore is right. Magic is so overpowered compared to psionics that primary magic is still better. carnivore's build is solid, except for Great Fortitude (unless I am mistaken and this is a choice you can't change). It is a useless feat. Instead, take one of the other feats from the list I posted above, or another good feat. Also, you should Psychic Reform out Precocious Apprentince once you have second-level spells. This opens up two feats. I would take Psicrystal Affinity and Overchannel, but do what you want. |
| runestar02-28-06, 10:12 PM | But I still can't resist multiclassing in a psion for the hustle+fission madness... :D Be sure to expanded knowledge to nab hustle as a psywarrior power rather than a psion power(2 less PP per manifestion, useful for a power you will be using on a regular basis). :) Shapechange into a choker once you are high enough lv...or go polymorph and take the assume supernatural ability from the XPH to nab a limited 3.0 haste 3/day. |
