Awesome stat ninja, I don't want them to go to waste [Archive] - Wizards Community

I've been playing in a game for a few weeks, it's going a pretty slow pace, we've been a while now and I've almost made it to second level, not too slow, but enough to keep you interested in low-level stats. Speaking of stats, I managed to roll an amazing set: 18, 18, 18, 14, 13, 12... I decided to go with a whisper gnome (g)ninja, ending up with (after adjustments) 12 str, 20 dex, 15 con, 18 int, 18 wis, and 10 cha.

So far I've got my first level of ninja, with Improved Initiative as my first feat, and maxed out ranks of Craft (poison), Hide, Move Silent, Disable Device, Search, Open Lock, Tumble, Spot, and Listen. Jump and Climb are being split evenly. I want to go all 20 levels of ninja, because my stats warrant that I would become an unbelievable destruction machine on the battlefield in no time.

The character functions as the party's trap monkey, and the only reason I'm not a way higher level than the others from snapping traps is I missed a couple sessions due to a new job (which I'll be able to make regularly so I should rework to the others' level in no time, they just made second last session I'm told).

I'm focusing primarily on using a belt filled with sais, as they double nicely as throwing weapons, which makes me wonder...do I need Weapon Finesse, or should I just keep "five foot step back and full-attack toss" throwing with Quick Draw instead?

I want to work in Flick of the Wrist, Improved Feint, and any other abilities that help me sudden strike every round if possible. Any other suggestions?

I want the character's focus to be stealth, even though he has racial/class abilities for it, I am focusing skill on it too in case he's in an antimagic zone, ect. His backstory has to do with assasination, so I'm talking quick, one-hit massive damage blows. I'll be using poison at every opportunity I can afford. I basically need to know how to map out this guys feats from here on, and maybe a few clues to better spread my skills and take advantage of that fast climb and leap of the heavens stuff. I'd drop listen and spot, but what is a ninja without keen senses?

I might recomend getting hamstring so that your prey never gets away to get help. and flick of the wrist and improved feint are essential. improved feint should be your first priority. Wep. finesse would be a complete waste because your str is higher than your dex so would be a wasted feat cuz it replaces not stacks.

I would look at Blade Bravo PrC in Races of Stone for a nice PrC. If your DM will allow it, iajitsu master from Oriental Adventures mixes very nicely with that PrC. There is a build floating around these forums somewhere that combines those. You might want to google for it.

If you want to be truely uber, check out the Scarlet Corsair PrC from Stormwrack. No feat requirements to get in, Improved Fient at first level as a bonus feat, at third level you can fient as a free action once every 2d4 rounds, plus you get sneak attack at level 2, and the best part: you'd be a pirate gninja!

Just something to think about.

you'd be a pirate ninja!

Of course, you'd be your own sworn enemy ...

I wouldn't recommend going straight Ninja, I don't think. Shadowdancer makes for a nice dip. There's also Soulknife2/SoulbowX, for Wis to Damage.

I'd consider getting more out of your Wisdom. You could grab Zen Archery and lower your Dex (raise strength), giving you more punch with attacks.

Don't forget the Umbral Disciple from MoI! Awesome class for a (at least) three-level-dip: Essentia, skills, 2 good saves, and hips (don't lie).

On Soulbow:
Ninja 2/Soulknife 2/Cleric 5/Soulbow 1/Shadowbane Stalker 10 is perhaps the best clerical utility Ninja available (at least IMHO).

No, I won't mention my out-of-date Ninja handbook (sig, ahem)... bleh, so much to do, so short on time.

Did you read the original post? DEX 20, STR 12...how is weapon finesse a waste?

f your DM will allow it, iajitsu master from Oriental Adventures mixes very nicely with that PrC.

I'm pretty sure it's 3.5 only, not 3.0...and besides, Iajitsu Focus isn't a ninja's class skill (for some reason) so I'd have to wait a loooooong time to get into the PRC, not to mention the feats I'd have to burn since I'm not even proficient with a bastard sword, let alone the prereqs... great combo idea though. Makes perfect sense for combat, I'll ask the DM if he'll allow it even though it's 3.0.

Well, I already am playing with these stats, so not much I can do. On the plus side, at level one, I have 20 AC with no armor, and somewhere around a +23 to my hide check. I've actually taken my -20 to hide and hid in plain sight from an enemy in battle and it WORKED, so I love my high dex.

Unfortunately my bluff sucks.

What book is MoI? I am not quite fluent in abbreviations.

.......

Oh, one more thing that I forgot to mention...my bluff sucks. It's +0. No ranks, 10 charisma. I had to use all my skillpoints on hide, move silent, jump, climb, tumble, spot, listen, disable device, open lock, and search. So Improved Feint and the like are kinda a bummer for me... Flick of the Wrist is still nice, though.

Any suggestions on weapons? I've been using mainly sais, but I wonder if it's worth buying a hand crossbow, heavy crossbow, longspear, shortsword, or any of the other lesser used ninja weapons.
