| The_perfect_hybrid02-09-07, 04:37 PM | Greetings. In a campaign where unconventional character choices were made, I'm living in the reality that my shapeshift variant druid(had to try it, sad I did) is acting as the back up tank. The reality of life is, people are going to die, and its likely going to be me. To that end, I've been considering a character to have ready to go in order to replace my guy. The lancer build has always fascinated me, but the Blade Dancer is pretty much invalid at this point, since its from OA. Most games aren't going to allow that book, and I know mine won't. (which is a pity, Stormwind's build is sexy and clean.) So, I'm trying to cough up alternative builds. So far I have a Human Ardent 1 Speed of Thought, Up the walls Fighter 1(2)Power Attack Fighter 2(3)Battle jump, Improved Bull Rush scout 1(4) scout 2(5) scout 3(6) Shock Trooper Scout 4(7) Leap Attack Scout 5(8) Scout 6(9) Longreach Scout 7(10) Scout 8(11) Psionic weapon Scout 9(12) Deep impact Scout 10(13) Scout 11(14) Scout 12(15) Two feats available I'm lost as to how to proceed from here. PrC's with move? I've had a tough time finding them. Big movement magic items? Better classes to toss in the mix after scout 11? I was looking at Theif Acrobat, who's 20ft slow fall couples with the Elemental mantles ignore 20 ft fall damage benefit nicely. Still, what say you, fellow sages, how can this be made to work in 3.5? Notes: Speed now is 70 (30 base, +10 unnamed from freedom mantle, +10 unnamed from speed of thought, +20 enhancement from scout) Shock trooper is a must before power attacking: 3/4 BAB leaves little accuracy as it is, let alone room for power attack. This is why I selected the up the walls, battle jump combo first. Deep impact makes those big Natural Armor enemies your *****, but does cost you your focus. This character design lacks the dodge/mobility/spring attack tree, but in my estimation if you are spring attacking more then charging, you are failing to utilize your gifts(Though I encourage people to force me to shut my mouth, if I'm missing something) Boots of Jumping for unnamed +10 to speed, and +5 jump checks are good, cranking move to 80. Dorje of Hustle is imperative in some cases, but most of this was excellently covered by Stormwind and all those who helped create that version. |

Its main purpose is producing HUGE jumps in that build, not making deadly ones. I'd suggest looking into Warblade from the Tome of Battle. LOTS of good Tiger Claw maneuvers (Death from Above, Soaring Raptor Strike, Swooping Dragon Stance, and so on) can all be used to get the lancer style without having to bruteforce it. |
