| Ravenous18702-19-05, 04:27 AM | This is regarding the regional feat Jotunbrud from FR. The feat allows you to be treated Large on opposed rolls and whether a monster's special attacks based on size affect you. A character taking this feat is the same size as races with Powerful Build so would it be balanced to treat them as large for prerequisites such as Feats and PrC? Is it possible that this feat was meant to be Powerful Build before they actually came out with it? If this is so would it be too strong to give Powerful Build with this feat? All input is appreciated. Thanks. |

All input is appreciated. Thanks. This belongs on the rules board, but I'll answer it here. It's not legal as written. Powerful Build does not treat you as large for anything other than what it lists -- namely, weilding weapons, opposed checks (trips, etc), and size-dependant triggers (swallow whole, wind effects, etc). Therefore, you are not Large when it comes to prerequisites. There is one, and only one, known exception to this -- a feat in Races of Stone says that it's only open to Large creatures, but "Goliaths qualify by virtue of their Powerful Build ability." The feat explicitly says this. It in no way modifies Powerful Build, or lets Powerful Build qualify for things like the Hulking Hurler or War Hulk. Besides, as-written, Jotenbrud doesn't stack with size increases, and doesn't allow the use of larger weapons. It's the very-poor-man's Powerful Build for humans. (Personally, the DM I last used it with houseruled that it DID stack with size increases but was otherwise unchanged. In other words, it became the relative-size half of Powerful Build for a 1st-level-only human-only feat, which he and I both saw as a good trade. YMMV, of course, and that is a houserule anyway.) |
