I really want to make a Sorcerer/Dragon Disciple and get the Disciple to level 10, but I'm worried about my spells being to weak.

Can Sorcerer 10/Dragon Disciple 10 at level 20 still be effective?

If not what, levels of each do you recommend?

Um, no. You will not be as effective as a 20th level caster should be, nor will you be as powerful as a 20th level melee tank. You will be bad at both, and get crushed.

If you want a draconic feel, consider the draconic feats from Complete Arcane. Or play a kobold sorceror. Or both. Have a pseudo-dragon familiar, or learn the draconic polymorph spell.

Even the half-dragon template is a better choice. It allows most of the benefits of being a dragon, and only costs three levels, not 10.

If you are committed to dragon disciple, then you'll be far happier with something like paladin 5/sorceror 1/dragon disciple 10/cavalier 6, or something along those lines. Talk to your DM about getting a dragon to ride around on.

Despite the deceptive pre-reqs, Dragon Disciple is a very melee-oriented class. The best ways to enter into it are Hexblade, Fighter/Bard, and Paladin/Sorc/EK.

Yah, or just Pal4/Sor1/DD10 -> some other melee PrC 5

The optimal number of Sorcerer levels is 1. :)

I dunno, I was tinkering with the idea of a Barbarian 1/Sorcerer 7/Rage Mage 2/Dragon Disciple 10. Throw in Extra Rage, Arcane Strike, and a couple of Extra Spell and you ought to have something halfway decent.

Actually, the optimal Sorcerer levels for Dragon Disciple is 4. By doing this, your DD levels get you more uses of Wraithstrike for massive-damage Power Attacking.

Okay, but in Core rules, it's 1 -- and your two spells are feather fall and true strike. :) Yay heavy armor!

(And the DD bonus spells go to extra 1st level Paladin spell slots, for extra Bless Weapon goodness. Yay auto confirmed crits!)

Or try barb4/sorc2/GSA4/DD10 if you are really so eager to get wraithstrike.

I agree that only taking one or two levels of Sorcerer is the way to go. So would it make sense to make them Battle Sorcerer levels from the UA?

I think a Barb4/Sorc1/DD10/Half-Dragon Paragon3/??2 would be an good build. I just can't decide what the last two levels should be... Barbarian again maybe?
