| Callahan42111-21-03, 10:08 AM | Background: Playing in a low-magic campaign where 3rd level and higher spells are cause for the Inquisition to come down on you, and magic items are somewhat rare, especially anything better than about a +2... the party is a team that is a part of a largish criminal syndicate, and contains a ranger, a halfling rogue, a half-elf mean-guy/assassin, an arcane spellcaster and a regular rogue. We spend a lot of time on ships and near water... We also play with an alternative experience points system that gives us some extra points to put into skills/feats/stats/etc. in addition to levelling, to give more flexibility, etc. (we level a bunch slower than normal). I also had some truly amazing rolls for my starting stats. ;) barb-1/cleric-3 (domains: healing/travel) STR 20 DEX 16 CON 16 INT 15 WIS 16 CHA 11 Hit pts: 39 Feats: Exotic WP (bastard sword), Power Attack, Dodge, Improved Bull Rush Skill Ranks: Climb-1, Concentration-7, Heal-7, Intimidate-7, Listen-7, Profession(sailor)-2, Profession(barber)-2, Spellcraft-6, Swim-4, Survival-1 Gear: Bastard Sword +2, Large Metal Shield +1 Now I've been playing him mostly as a straight melee type, using cleric spells (Bull's Strength!) to buff him for combat... tend to use the shield against many opponents and/or when fighting relatively equal opponents, will sling the shield and wield the bastard sword 2-h when fighting squishy or DR critters, etc... with rage and bull's strength up, power attacking at +3, he's doing 22-31 pts of damage per 2-h strike vs 15-24 when wielding one-handed in the same circumstances Any ideas for progression beyond where I'm at would be appreciated. Keep in mind that I don't need to wait for certain levels for new feats/etc., I can "buy" them as I earn bonus points. Also, any ideas for longterm development are appreciated... where can this guy be in 10 more levels? |

And with progression, go straight cleric the rest of the way. It is nice to see someone else who'll use a bastard sword as a two handed weapon once in a while, one the reasons it is such a good weapon. |
| Callahan42111-21-03, 12:45 PM | well, with the benefits of 2-handed Power attacking, and a STR that is already quite nasty, it's well worth the extra effort when you absolutely gotta do lots of damage I know a 2-h weapon is archetypically a barb thing to do and I wanted the OPTION to do that, but I also really liked the shield, plus I had a mini I wanted to use that I'd converted that had a badass bastard sword and shield, so there ya go. ;) |
