Thinking of trying to go down the path of a green star adept (or whatever-material adept, that the DM allows, although there is nothing to suggest at this stage that it won't be allowed). I realise I have to go until level 6 so I can meet the Feat requirement (combat casting) I realise that basically the levels I take now (ie. 4, 5 and 6) need to meet the skill requirements (bunch of 2 knowledge's, 8 knowledge (arcana), 2 decipher script). Now the problem for me is what base caster class is appropriate. Bard: Pros - All the skills are class skills, and I can meet the skill requirements in 2 levels. Can cast in light armour, suits the barbarian fast movement. Alignment is no problem. Cons - CHA based caster, and the character would then need to invest all/most/some of the stat point I get every 4 levels in it. Average BAB Wu Jen: Pros - INT based caster, means I don't necessarily need anything extra in INT immediately. Gets a metamagic feat at level 1 (guessing still spell), so casting in armour is not half the problem it was, alignment is no problem Cons - I'll only get 4 (2+2(int) skill points a level, and thus it would take 4 levels to meet the requirement. Crap BAB Hexblade: Pros - Mettle is nice, good BAB, can cast in armour Cons - Not sure about 'arcane caster level 1', CHA based caster, only 4 skill points (2 + 2(int)), will require an alignment shift. Some sort of mixture I could imagine going is possibly 2 levels in rogue (+evasion), to help me get the required skills, however ALL of the required, other than decipher script are cross-class for rogue :( I realise that prior planning on this character would have been beneficial, however our group only recently acquired some of the relevant books. Eventually I'll grab spring attack, or at very least do it next fighter level. Given that Fighter is the favoured class, all other classes will need to remain within a level of each other, so I won't raise Barb until I know what else I will be taking. Any thoughts anyone? Should I try and bargain with my DM to re-jig some skill points (for things rarely used) or is there an easier method, or preferable method to get the most out of this character? Another question, slightly off topic, but given the Green Star Adept loses dex slowly, the loss would take me under the requirement for dodge/mobility. Is there a RAW entry regarding what would occur, or is it mainly just a dm's preference sort of thing? |

Hoever, any bonus that takes you back over 13 (even a simple Cat's Grace spell) would let you use it again for as long as it's affecting you. I would go to your DM and ask for a re-build of the character. Swap your Int and Cha and take Hexblade levels instead of Barbarian levels (You either loose the ability to Rage when you lose your Con score, or it only lasts 3 rounds). Re-distribute your skill points and be done with it. Also, you might want to pick different feats such as Power Attack and other feats in it's chain. If you really want to make a transcendant character, however, then you might want to just pick Dragon Diciple instead. Put your level 4 point in Charisma and you're fine. The skills take care of themselves. |
