| Grindle03-14-04, 04:51 PM | How about some ideas on developing my Barbarian? He comes from a horse culture and is fundamentally opposed to projectile weapons. He usually fights with a short spear and a great sword. S16,D14,C14,I12,W10,Ch12 Feats: Power Attack, Cleave I'm planning on taking up to three ranger levels, I'm not really interested in the two-weapon fighting style. I'd rather take rapid-shot to use in conjunction with quick draw. What do you think? I've never played a "meatsheild" before, the lack of ac is somewhat disconcerting. Any suggestions? I'm thinking dodge and mobility, what else is out there? I don't want to lose the 40' movement, it's awesome. Finally, how useful is improved overrun? I understand the rules to mean that your overrun is your attack for that round. What good does it do to knock down the guy in front of the evil sorceror if you don't even get an attack on the bad guy when you get to him? Even if you position yourself for a attack of opportunity, the guy can just take a 5' step and throw a lightning bolt at you. |

| Eagle Prince03-14-04, 05:44 PM | I believe overrun is part of a move action, thus you knock down the wizard's bodyguard to get to him and then attack all as one turn. But I could be wrong, I'll have to double-check the overrun section now. I was also reading through cleave yesterday and noticed that with cleave you only can use it once per round. I always thought cleave let you use it once per attack, and great cleave multiple times with one attack, but you actually need great cleave to even cleave on seperate attacks, making great cleave even more attractive now. Well, you could only use cleave once per round even in 3.0, but I never noticed that. |
| Grindle03-14-04, 07:52 PM | Wow, just posted that this morning and already have plenty to think about. 1. I'm taking the Ranger levels cause I'm a feat junkie and the first three levels of Ranger offer feats that fit in with my character. That, and I'll get access to more skills and a couple of extra skill points to work with. 2.I think the overrun is your standard action, in lieu of an attack as your standard action. Overrun is still good in that you can take it during your move, kinda like spring attack or ride-by-attack. If I'm wrong, let me know. 3. Thanks for filling me in on cleave, I was thinking it was once per attack as well. Even though "Ian" is still a measley second level, I think I've used it more than once in a round, during an attack of opportunity and during my regular attack. Gonna have to come clean with my dm. Did I thank you for filling me in? Yes, great cleave is much more attractive now. Any other favorite feats out there? How about some opinions on ability increases? I think it's gotta be one of the physical traits but don't know which I prefer. I'm leaning towards strength, but a higher dex would grant me a higher ac bonus. And of course feeding my constitution score will bump up my hp (even retroactively according to my dm). |
