| Craenor08-31-06, 10:50 PM | Ok...here's the deal. I am making a Dwarven pure melee oriented character in Eberron. We are starting at 1st level and may go to around 15-16ish eventually. We did organic stat generation and I did really well. So right now I have: Str 15 Dex 14 Con 13 Int 18 Dex 16 Cha 11 I can swap any one stat with another, so that 18 will move somewhere (probably dex). I was thinking about working up a Barbarian 3, Rogue 3, Fighter 9 that specialized in TWF with Dwarven Waraxe once I can get Oversized TWF. But right now I'm stuck, which class should I start with at level 1... Rogue for skills Barbarian for hps and movement Help? |
| Craenor09-01-06, 01:09 AM | Shameless bump, I changed the original title thread hoping to get some thoughts. |
| cog_and_taz09-01-06, 02:02 AM | I don't have experience with fighters, but I say barb for rage and hps, or fighter for the feats. |
| Generic Poster09-01-06, 02:21 AM | always go for rogue at first level if you're going to add rogue at all. 32 base skill points is more then you'll get with 15 levels of fighter. |
| Surreal09-01-06, 03:26 AM | What books do you have available? What is your party composition? The more info you give us, the more we can help. Check out some of the posting guidelines (somewhere within the stickes at the top of the forum). Your current setup is quite frankly awful. Do you intent to have prestige classes at all? |
| JulesCARV09-01-06, 04:09 AM | Weeelll, if you have Five Nations, and you don't mind your dwarf being from Breland, you could go into Dark Lantern. |
| vogster09-01-06, 07:38 AM | You could put the 18 in Con and have a 20 at 1st level. Then go barbarian 2/ranger 3/deepwarden 2. Pick up extra rage, power attack and steadfast determination. Then when you rage you will have 24 con so +7 bonus which will go to will saves and to AC. That cancels out the -2 ac from rage and while raging you will have a huge will save and huge fort save. You could pick up reckless rage later on for a total of +6 str +6 con -1 ac while raging. You will have godly hps while raging also. |

I have most of the books from Wizards available, but almost no books from other publishers. Also, if I want to take a feat or prestige class from a non-Eberron or non-Core book, I have to go through a questing or training process. So I'm trying to limit how much stuff comes from non-Core or non-Eberron books. We have a four member group....we have a mage and a cleric already, but I'm pretty much tagged to be a serious melee'er. I'm definitely open to suggestions. I'd even considered like..maybe a Goliath monk, get INA...or take Monastic Training and mix monk with something else (and still get INA maybe). Thanks for the ideas... |
| Surreal09-01-06, 11:25 AM | If you want high damage, drop the idea of TWF. The feat and stat investment is too heavy. Stick with the Dwarven Waraxe, wield it in two hands, and take some levels of Exotic Weapon Master for Uncanny Blow to double your strength bonus to damage. Being a pure barbarian with power attack is all you really need. edit: ok, not quite true. Anything that increases your power attack ratio is highly desirable |
| Craenor09-01-06, 11:28 AM | Ok...so let's talk complete change of concept. Goliath Barbarian? Goliath Barbarian, Fighter? Goliath Barbarian, Fighter, Cleric? |
| Surreal09-01-06, 11:54 AM | Multiclassing with base classes really isn't very optimal. It's not so bad with the various multiclass feats from Complete Adventurer, but those are meant more for the skills classes than anything. If you're going Goliath, definitely take up the first barbarian substitution level (Races of Stone) for the stronger rage and increase in size. Dip into fighter for extra feats as desired. Alternatively, go straight cleric and enjoy the madness that is persistant buffs (with maybe a dip into Barbarian for the size bump). |
| dvlsadvct09-01-06, 01:06 PM | So looks like you have your heart set on goliath. Just remember that is a +1 LA. My reccomendation: Barb4/Fighter2/Frenzied Berserker10/insert class x4. As a hint, hint I would throw in one level of Horizon walker to get the desert ability. Not neccessary, though. Another Eberron option would be to go warforged juggernaught charger. Both of these classes will net you some serious melee power. As far as Barb stats [before racial adj] I'd go; STR: 15 DEX: 16 CON: 18 INT: 14 WIS: 13 CHA: 11 Oh yeah 1st level go Barb and take the RoS substitution. Save PA and Cleave for your fighter bonus. Pick up a spiked chain if you really want to be a menace. Otherwise a greatsword/greataxe/warmace will suffice. Guisarm if you want reach and dont want to sack a feat. Remember when you have the mountain rage ability you become large so you get a 10' natural reach. Then add in weapon reach; you have battlefield control. |
| vogster09-01-06, 01:21 PM | Edit: opps |

I defiinitely like where that's going (and I don't mind the +1 LA). I would note though that since I'm using Organic stat gen, I can only swap one set of stats. If I went Str 15 Dex 14 Con 18 Int 13 Wis 16 Cha 11 Before racial adjustment...would the +5 con bonus (instead of +2) make up for the 12 dex, dropping my dex bonus from 16 to 12? (assuming the 18 went into Dex). Since I would be limited to Medium Armor I know it would be better to at least have a 14 if not a 16 dex, but then again...20 Con is a LOT nicer than 15 |
| dvlsadvct09-01-06, 01:26 PM | So you have proficiency with a martial weapon and not an exotic weapon and therefore don’t qualify for exotic weapon master. Just thought I would clear that up. Except that in the prereq section of EWM it explicitly states that racial familiarity is acceptable for meeting the requirements of the class. Just thought I would clear that up. |

| Craenor09-01-06, 05:27 PM | Ok...going with Goliath Barbarian (not sure of the rest of the progression yet), but I'm going to take Racial Substitution Level for Barbarians at 1st level. Now I have one choice left... 16 dex, 15 con (after racial adjustment) or 12 dex, 20 con (after racial adjustment) Thoughts? |
| dvlsadvct09-01-06, 11:30 PM | I suppose it all depends on if you want more HP and rage rounds or a higher AC. Myself I would go 20 Con, who needs AC if you got a billion HP? You can always buy armor class. I guess you lose out on some skill points.[who has heard of a barb with an 18 INT?] Not a real issue for a meat shield. |
