Barbarian Grappler help required. [Archive] - Wizards Community

07-27-05, 07:40 AM Scrap my counterspeller plan, take the fight to the enemy! I'm planning an anticaster Grappler type.. but I'm stuck on feats. I usually play rogues and monks and such.

Most any book can be used, below is my basic idea of a progression to use which leads into getting Anti-magic field.

Human Bbn1/Ftr4/Holy Liberator3/Runescarred Berzerker9

1 Bbn 1--Owlbear Berzerker h--Jotunbrud
2 Ftr f1-Improved Grapple
3 Ftr f2-Iron Will 3--Weapon Focus (Grapple)
4 Ftr
5 Ftr f4-Weapon Specialization(Grapple)
6 HL 6--Survivor
7 HL
8 HL
9 RSB 9--
10 RSB
11 RSB
12 RSB 12-
13 RSB
14 RSB
15 RSB 15-
16 RSB
17 RSB
18 Bbn 18-
19 Bbn

Stats (give or take, they could be shifted around if a feat requires something)
:
Str 18
Dex 14
Con 16
Int 10
Wis 12
Cha 16

edit: I did at least remember Jotunbrud, so I added that in and swapped some levels.

07-27-05, 11:09 AM You need a higher wisdom. Runescarred Berserker requires a wis of 10+spell level to scribe any of the scars. =\

The tenth level of berserker might be worth it: you could get the ability to scribe a polymorph:self spell onto your skin, which is an ability that could save you from all kinds of scraps.

Knifefighter(regional feat, players guide to faerun) is imperative if you don't have unarmed damage. It lets you attack with light weapons without penalty.

Personally, I would scrap joten for a +1 la critter with the powerful build ability(goliath, half-giant). Joten won't scale if you are ever fortunate enough to get made bigger via magic.

07-27-05, 12:24 PM Have you considered the Bear Warrior? Jotunbrud Human Barbarian 5 / Fighter 2 / Bear Warrior 10 / Warshaper 3 is pretty straightforward, packs a Large size that is actually compatible with your powerful build (since it's derived from a feat, and not your race), and can be made into an even nastier grapple machine with a few Aberrant feats. Having a 15-foot reach, +24 Str, being effectively Huge for grappling purposes, and a few other bonuses is nothing to laugh at. You can easily manage a +55 grapple check modifier by level 20.

It only says you're treated at large, not one size larger. It also has a requirement of being human on it.
