| Dick Dastardly08-30-06, 03:53 AM | i need help with a barbarian please. we're playing a water based campaign, kinda like the water world film. i want a level 8 human barbarian, who must be able to climb use rope, jump swim and possibly balance might be important too. the concept i have is some kind of an axe expert. twf with axes, and using throwing axes too possibly? we are limmited to the core books and the complete books. to sum it up a twf lvl8 human barb. Edit: we are no longer using the dice roll method but a high powered 38 stat buy system thanks in advance |

| Dick Dastardly08-30-06, 08:32 AM | How about you post... feat choices and level progression eh? The we have somethin to work with. thats part of what i was hoping you guys could help me with. i had the basic idea, but want to know how to make him a worthy adversary in combat. preferably fighting with two axes, jumping from a boat into the enemy on another, or swinging across and dropping into the combat. that kind of thing is what i aim for. the rest is up to you guys. thanks |

| Xeraph08-30-06, 09:19 AM | If you roll your own scores, let us at least know what we have to work with there? I agree, without an another source of damage, apart from strength, TWF falls behind the good old twohanded weapon fighting. If you post your scores we could maybe find away to make TWF axe fighting durable. Heres how I would start of: Feat Rogue 2/ Fighter 2/ Barbarian 1/ Master Thrower 3 Feats: Point Blank Shot, Power Shot, Precise Shot, Weapon Focus (that overly powerful new minotaur axe of some sort), Throw Anything, Quickdraw, Endurance, Steadfast Determination... Well just an idea. (PS. You might want to grab a Flaw, maybe Gullible (Dragon Mag 325), and get the Extra Rage feat.) |

Pretty easy to qualify for, and lets you treat ranged attacks as melee (at the cost of your swift action for the round). It includes giving you the Throw Anything feat, so you can throw whatever type of axe... though TWF isn't generally ideal with a barbarian, it can be made to work. To make it work, I'd suggest wielding two battleaxes. You'll eat another -2 to hit, but neither will be light, so you'll get full strength on each attack, and should be able to power attack properly with both weapons. Again Tome of Battle could help, though here it's a bit harder to qualify, I think. Book is on loan, but the Bloodclaw Master has something involving rage, as well as some boosts to TWF. Climb, Jump and Swim are on your class skills list for Barbarian, so that's a good start. Balance and Use Rope will be harder to keep up the ranks in, though. Yet again Tome of Battle could provide some help, I think. You probably want to stick to light armor, as you'll want to keep up your mobility and minimize swimming penalties. If you're throwing, Far Shot is probably wise, but you need a way to get your weapons back immediately, or else carry a lot... which gets expensive and also encumbers you. Combining both throwing and two-weapon fighting on a barbarian is going to be very feat-expensive, if it's doable in a reasonable manner. |
