| gorshtak07-26-06, 08:43 AM | hi, i'd like to build a Wolverine-like character and i have some questions: If i use the Whirling Frenzy variant, can i make the extra attack with a claw attack? The Warshaper PRC is a good 2 level dip or a 4 level dip class? The Weretouched Master is a good 1 level dip or a 3 dip class? abilities rolls: 18,14,14,13,13,10 the build: Barbarian 4/ Warshaper 2 or 4/ Weretouched Master 1 or 3/ Thayan Gladiator is there a better way to build a claw fighter? thanks |
| gorshtak07-27-06, 07:49 AM | so i'll focus on claw attacks and grappling. i'll use the Totem variant and i choose the Bear. i'll also use the Whirling Frenzy variant. the build: Barbarian Shifter, Razorclaw trait. Str: 18 Con: 14 Dex: 16 Int: 11 Wis: 10 Cha: 11 1) Barbarian 1: Toughness, Rage 1/day, Razorclaw Elite 2) Bar 2: Improved Grapple 3) Barb 3: Great Fortitude, Improved Natural Attack? 4) Barb 4: Rage 2/day 5) Barb 4/Warshaper 1: Morphic Immunities, Morphic Weapons 6) Barb 4/WS 2: Morphic Body, Great Rend 7) Barb 4/WS 2/ Weretouched Master 1: Bear (improved claw) 8) Barb 4/WS 2/ WM 2: Wild Empathy, Shifter Multiattack 9) Barb 4/WS 2/ WM 3: Bear (free grapple after claw attack) 10) Barb 4/WS 3/WM 3: Morphic Reach 11) Barb 4/WS 4/WM 3: Morphic Healing 12) Barb 4/WS 4/WM 3/ Thayan Gladiator 9 is there any best choice? thanks |

| gorshtak07-27-06, 08:06 AM | Weretouched Master used to ber a god PrC pre-errata... now it's a lot weaker it give me +2 BAB in 3 level, 1 Shifter feat, + 1 die size to my claw damage, an extra +2 Str while Shifting and the Claw,Claw,Grapple,Bite combat sequence. it's no so bad after all... You need Disguise as a class skill to qualify for Warshaper that early... is it an errata? i only need +4 BAB and Shapechanger Subtype.... |
| Pinky's brain07-27-06, 11:19 AM | The problem with claw attacks is that unless you have ridiculous base damage (which you won't without the claws of the beast psionic power) they really start lagging in damage compared to a simple THF build. The simple solution is to use them as secondary weapons. As a primary weapon to use alongside your claws you can use unarmed strike (kicks) or a mouthpick weapon. It's better to go barbarian 2/fighter 2 and just take extra rage. Something like barbarian 2/fighter 2/ranger 1/weretouched master 4 works fine (the 4th level of weretouched master is probably worth it, you really need shifter feats bad to get a decent number of shifts per day). Ranger is there to meet the knowledge nature prerequisite which everyone always forgets. |
| gorshtak07-27-06, 11:56 AM | thank you for your replies, Pinky's brain and Sang-Drax. first of all, i've to say that i'm the second barbarian of the party, the other one is a THF Ranger 1 is a good idea,as is fighter 2. unarmed strikes for a non-monk will be more ridiculous than a claw attack.... i'd prefere use bite as a secondary weapon and 3 claws attacks (with whirling frenzy) for 3x 1d8+6 and 1d6+3 at level 6 so: Ranger 1/Barbarian 2/Fighter 2/Warshaper 4/Weretouched Master 4/Thayan Gladiator 7 or Ranger 1/Barbarian 2/Fighter 1/Warshaper 4/Weretouched Master 4/Thayan Gladiator 8 it depends on how usefull can be the fighter's feats..... |
| Pinky's brain07-27-06, 12:05 PM | unarmed strikes for a non-monk will be more ridiculous than a claw attack.... How do you figure that? You still get to keep your claw attacks (all your natural attacks become secondary when you use unarmed strikes). You get the benefit of an iterative primary attack in addition to your claws. |
| gorshtak07-27-06, 12:17 PM | oh , i misunderstand, i thought that as a secondary attack i can only make 1 claw attack.... so i can make all my iteratives kick attacks then all my claws attacks( at -5 or -2 if i take the multiattack feat). so the combat sequence is at level 6: +9,+9 kicks and +7,+7,+7 claws |
| Pinky's brain07-27-06, 01:29 PM | Yeah, assuming you use your whirling frenzy attack with your claw. Secondary natural attacks only do 1/2 strength though. |
