| Barbarian7401-28-07, 04:50 PM | Hey folks. Well, in a couple of weeks my friends and I are starting up a savage Tide Campaign (set in Faerun) and it was requested that I play a Half Orc Barbarian, but to make him a bit unusual. Well, here is what I have come up with so far. Grog is a Half Orb Barbarian that faught under Obould Many Arrows during the wars along the spine of the world. Well, during a raid on a village the women and children were slaughtered and this didn't fit his taste. Eventually he left the army in disgust and wandered south. He still worships Grummsh believing that he stands for strength and self-reliance rather than anything evil and that the shamans twist Grummsh's teachings. He is Chaotic Good and at this point, the only Good aligned character in the party. Okay, back story aside, I wanted to tweak him, he has to start as 1/2 Orc Barbarian, but from there, I am free and open to add anythign I want. I have wanted to play an abjurant champion spells and sword blend type since I saw the AC class and want to prove that puny elves arent the only ones that can blend the 2. What I have at the Moment is Barbarian 1 Barbarian 2 Barbarian 3 Barbarian 3 / Fghtr 1 Barbarian 3 / Fghtr 2 Barbarian 3 / Fghtr 2 / Srcer 1 / Barbarian 3 / Fghtr 2 / Srcer 1 / Ab Chmp 1 / Barbarian 3 / Fghtr 2 / Srcer 1 / Ab Chmp 2 / Barbarian 3 / Fghtr 2 / Srcer 1 / Ab Chmp 3 / Barbarian 3 / Fghtr 2 / Srcer 1 / Ab Chmp 4 / Barbarian 3 / Fghtr 2 / Srcer 1 / Ab Chmp 5 / Barbarian 3 / Fghtr 2 / Srcer 1 / Ab Chmp 5 / Eld Knight 1 Barbarian 3 / Fghtr 2 / Srcer 1 / Ab Chmp 5 / Eld Knight 2 Barbarian 3 / Fghtr 2 / Srcer 1 / Ab Chmp 5 / Eld Knight 3 Barbarian 3 / Fghtr 2 / Srcer 1 / Ab Chmp 5 / Eld Knight 4 Barbarian 3 / Fghtr 2 / Srcer 1 / Ab Chmp 5 / Eld Knight 5 Barbarian 3 / Fghtr 2 / Srcer 1 / Ab Chmp 5 / Eld Knight 6 Barbarian 3 / Fghtr 2 / Srcer 1 / Ab Chmp 5 / Eld Knight 7 Barbarian 3 / Fghtr 2 / Srcer 1 / Ab Chmp 5 / Eld Knight 8 Barbarian 3 / Fghtr 2 / Srcer 1 / Ab Chmp 5 / Eld Knight 9 His stats at level 1 are Str: 18, Dex:14, Con:17, INT:12, WIS:13, CHA:16 Okay, to start with I have accessability to pretty much everything bookwise. He is starting with a Jovar as his primary weapon and I have access to 2 Faults giving me 2 extra feats at level 1. (One of which is obviously XWP: Jovar) Any suggestions/tweaks/changes to the build are appreciated, but basically, I'm looking to try and keep this general flavor of the 1/2 ork barbarian that has a helluva lot more up his sleeve than it looks like, as well as beeing primarily a front line butcher everything nearby type. |

Normally you can't cast spells while Raging, but the Rage Mage fixes that, and has a great 10th level ability too. EDIT: A Wizard might be better than Sorcerer for this - could you swap Intelligence and Charisma? |

EDIT: A Wizard might be better than Sorcerer for this - could you swap Intelligence and Charisma? I took a looksee at Rage Mage, Unfortunately the +1 Spellcaster level/2 levels kinda drew me away from it, but I definately gave that some thought. As for spellcasting during a rage, I was more looking at him concentrating his spellcasting on buffs and pre-fight/opening the fight types of spells, then concentrating on using Arcane Boost and Arcane Strike to deal ungodly damage in combat while raging (since neither ability is actually casting spells, just burning off spell slots) As for the Wizard, I seriously looked into that as well, but from a roleplaying perspective it just didn't fit the character, unfortunately if I want those sanctified spells it's going to require I burn a feat on Arcane Preperation this way, but I just can't imagine Grog sticking his big green nose into too many books. ;) Thanks for the responce! :) |
| WombleHunter01-28-07, 05:44 PM | You could also swap a level of Fighter for a level of Sorcerer - it would get you an extra casting level and the same BAB. |
| rilem01-28-07, 06:20 PM | No, swap a level of BBn. Level 3 gets you almost nothing. But reconsider the Rage Mage (specifically this build by x-codes. (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=10280511&postcount=5) |
| BomTrady01-28-07, 07:23 PM | A level of Spellsword never hurt anyone. BAB, caster level, arcane armor failure reduction. Actually if you go with Twighlight Mithril Full Plate and thistledown suit under the armor, a level in spellsword, i believe, lets you cast in full mithril plate without a spell failure chance. This lets you get around that pesky exalted thing. Oh yeah, and if you are worried about RolePlaying and campaign flavor...avoid greater luminous armor. You glow like the sun all day long and if you ever end the spell...you lose strength which seems to be something your character would be very opposed to. It saves you a feat on Arcane Prep too. Greater Luminous armor is awesome....but only for the people who say to the DM...I don't mind walking into the cave/bar/inn/king's antechamber glowing like the sun to the point where people would take a -4!!! penalty on attacks just from being near me. That's a tough roleplaying bullet to bite, that spell. |
