| Ctbomber11-24-06, 11:40 PM | im wondering whether to take 1 single level in rogue along with 7 others in bard, to keep up with damage from sneak attacking? now i know that people would say that bard 7 and rogue 1 are both kinda crappy levels but we have a rogue, we have a fighter, a wizard that hucks BIG damage around, i just want to be a little more damaging as a bard, so i think its good enough to take only the one level of rogue, and 7 of bard, cause we can only use PHB and there isnt much to work with so yeah any spell cominations, battle tactics would be awesome thanks |
| Hanniball11-25-06, 01:06 AM | Sneak attacking with your spells requires the spell to be a damage dealing ranged touch attack spell; something Bards lack many of. Also, 1D6 sneak attack is not really going to help much at all. I'd go at least Rog 3 for evasion and 2D6 sneak attack. You'll more than likely continue to play the support role as opposed to being a real damage dealer with a Bard though. Your group is lacking a Cleric however. If you want to show that Wizard how to deal some damage, consider a fully buffed melee Cleric or Cleric Archer. Either way...just my 2 cp |
| dvlsadvct11-25-06, 01:09 AM | Yeah, Cleric, what he said ^. You can't even use the DMG? A Cleric will be far more useful to your party, or at least a Druid. Druid 20 = kick Ass core. |
| nittanytbone11-25-06, 01:12 AM | The biggest use a bard gets from one rogue level is the Trapfinding ability, which allows you to be a solid device-expert (trapmonkey) with maxed search adn disable device skills. In a core-only environment, bards suck. Seriously. Unless you're aiming for a Diplo-mancer (maxed out diplomacy skill), they're fairly weak. I believe Yekoj wrote a guide to bards around here somewhere; it might be handy for you. |
| X-Codes11-25-06, 01:14 AM | Oh stop posting this thread... I already posted in your first thread that Bard and Rogue don't mix to good effect. If you want to be a Bard, be a Bard 8, forget the rogue levels. That 1d6 sneak attack will not help you enough to be worth sacrificing another 3rd level spell and Inspire Courage +2. Also, you already have a Rogue in the party, so Trapfinding won't help. Put the Shock enhancement on your weapon if you want to do more damage. Don't add Rogue levels to your build. |
| Ctbomber11-25-06, 03:29 AM | yeah my dm is using the phb for letting us create characters i have so far taken these things to increase my flavor as a bard: an intelligent banjo, that has int15, cha 15, wis 10.charm monster 3/day, hold person 3/day,detect magic at will. i have taken a scimitar with frost quality.(to pick up some combat damage) a pixie cohort that can cast ottos dance a quaal's feather token whip, improved feint, combat expertise, greater fortitude, and wpn finesse for feats, and well i guess thats it, i havent rolled stats yet. This is only using the phb. im wondering whether to take levels in rogue, with the bard or no but i deffinatlywant to be a bard |
