Bard Optimization [Archive] - Wizards Community

02-15-07, 10:13 PM Well the CO library's two handbooks to Bard CO are down.

I'm not really sure how to do this whole build thing, but the basic idea I have is to maximise the one ability that is unique to the Bard - music.

Here are feats I thought of taking.

1. Extra Music (Complete Adventurer)
2. Song of the Heart (Eberron Campaign Setting)
3. Dragontouched (Dragon Magic) - this is a prerequisite for the next feat.
4. Dragonfire Inspiration (Dragon Magic)
5. Words of Creation (Book of Exalted Deeds) - I'm not sure if BoED is still current to v3.5.
6. Captivating Melody (Complete Mage)
7. Leadership (PHB) or Dragon Cohort (Draconomicon) - taken at level 18 to get a worthwhile cohort.

As for spells, apart from the usual medley of Illusion and Enchantment the spell Inspirational Boost (CAd) caught my eye.

PrC-wise... perhaps Dragonsong Lyrist (Draconomicon), Virtuoso (CAd) or Troubadour of the Stars (BoED)?

They claim that pruning the boards will allow the admins to reinstate true search functionality. 02-16-07, 01:39 PM Since you'll have to be exalted anyways, why not be a dragonborn? Saves you from taking the Dragontouched feat, I think...

02-16-07, 08:21 PM Well that's true, but then I want to be able to use a build regardless of setting... not all DM's may allow the use of oddball races like Dragonborn. Also, while this is a CO thread, I have RP reasons for not liking the Dragonborn... they're so awfully stiff and dutiful! Goes against the character of a bard IMO.

The only reason for taking Dragontouched is to qualify for Dragonfire Inspiration, which seems like quite an awesome feat. Allows you to substitute each +1 bonus to attack and weapon damage rolls granted by Inspire Courage for 1D6 fire damage (or whatever damage associated with your dragon heritage).

So... with song of the heart and the spell Inspirational Boost a level 8 Bard could grant 4D6 fire damage to his allies. If he doubles the bonus with Words of Creation that becomes 6D6!
