Total curiosity question here.

Would "bad things" happen if you replaced the Bard's Spontaneous casting with Wizard-style casting? Same Spell List, but using a spell book and memorizing spells, and int as the casting stat.

My initial reactions is that this would increase MAD, and decrease moment-to-moment flexibility, but gaining the ability to learn a lot more spells. Skills would go through the roof because of the high int as well.

What do you guys think? Make the bard stronger, weaker, no changes?

IMO it would make it a good deal stronger.

Most of the bards I play focus on the buffing songs as opposed to save vs. bard ones like Fascinate and Suggestion (even though they have awesome DCs). Switching the spellcasting over to Intelligence-based would let me pump up skill points without sacrificing spellcasting or very much music. There are also a metric ton of second-level spells that I like, and the 3/4 spells I know just aren't enough to cover everything I want.

Sounds about right to me. It might make an interesting entry into Sublime Chord, since you get a lot of lower level spells that you have to prepare, and then a couple of high level spells that you can cast spontaneously.

It would be great but unless bonus spells are still cha-based (similar to Divine Bard) then I think it'd be a lot, lot stronger. Look at a possible Bard / Warblade / JPM gish.

I think if you made bonus spells int based as well, you'd end up with something similar to a Beguiler, but with better comabt ability and music, instead of 9th level spells.
