Bard with Leadership; best Cohorts/Followers to take? [Archive] - Wizards Community

Assuming my character doesn't die a horrible, unreversable death within the next two levels, due to my PrC I will be gaining a virtual leadership feat at 13th level (if any of you are familiar with it, the Connection from Ultimate PrC 1, by Mongoose).
I also get another virtual leadership feat at 10th level of my PrC, at my 20th level, and I'm planning on taking Leadership as my 15th level feat.
On top of this, at levels 2, 4, 6 and 8 of the PrC I gain an ally that is only sometimes (Charisma check, DC 20-Connection Level) available, at the power level of a cohort I would have from the leadership feat.

To put it quickly, I'm a Bard 10/Connection 1 with 18 CHA (22, Cloak), and by the time I expect this to be kicking in, I'll be a Bard 10/Connection 2, and I'll be getting my first 'New Friend'.

My current character is a diplomatic/lying/talky, generally social guy. My current idea for a cohort/bodyguard from leadership is a Doppelganger with some levels in rogue - someone to takethe 'temperature' of the people around me, to analyse threats, using detect thoughts.

My current idea for a 'New Friend' is someone to help me research magic spells, magic item creation (I have Craft Wondorous Item, and will get Forge Ring at 12, and I have 10 ranks in Craft: Jewelery), and things similar to this. In my 'Home Town' base, most of the arcane spellcasters are Wizards, and the majority of them are specialists.

Basically, I'm asking for ideas for what sort of people I'll be recruiting. For followers, the Connection PrC basically makes you the person who knows everybody; my followers will most likely be people I know from different bars, or possibly my staff if I ever buy myself that house I've wanted...

Any tips?
