I'm more or less out of ideas, but I have a general idea of where I'd like to take this character. I'm looking to play an elf bard that goes assassin. I'm playing a FR campaign, so the books allowed are core, FR, and splat. No psi's, or dragon mag, or third party. We've already started playing, currently at level 1, but we'll being jumping up in levels quickly. Here is what I have: Race: Elf Sex: Male STATS: Str:12(1) Dex:18(4) Con:14(2) Int:12(1) Wis:10(0) Chr:18(4) Stats were given by the DM, but they can be re-arranged if needed, until we advance to level 2, or die. I'm looking to have a ok spell selection (ie bard versus wizard or cleric) and a good amount of rogue. I like the idea of going assassin, I think it will fit in well with the story and my background. One note, the DM has allowed assassin to be up to true neutral as well, stating that some of them are in it for the money only and thus may not be evil. His call, wether we agree or not. I've always toyed with the idea of being an assassin, just never felt like being evil, so now I have the chance. I do have to stick with at least bard (1), but the other 19 levels are open. So based on what I have, does anyone have any good suggestions? |

By going Assassin, you'd be gaining a couple of abilities but losing out on a lot of magic (4 spell levels and 10 caster levels twice are no match for 6 spell levels with 20 caster levels) and in 3.5 the bard keeps getting better as you progress in it. In 3.0 ignore the above... From Splat you definitely want the Subsonics feat when you reach a high enough level, 'specially if you want a stealthy build. I'd also go for Spellcasting Prodigy and Weapon Finesse as your first two feats (Leadership as your third) although there is a good case for Cosmopolitan- Spot. Essentially, unless you include Dragon 311 or BOED, Bard 20 is one of the best non intricate bard builds out there and a well played 3.5 bard is more than viable. A badly played one is dead meat (more so than almost any other class). As for stats, I'd swap Int and Con but only get con boosting items. CaoSlayer has done a guide to the bard somewhere on the classes board. |
