I have a question related to Antimagic field. According the PHB (3.5) the ability/spell is pretty powerful. I have a scenario and was wondering if anyone has dealt with it and what a fair ruling would be…

I play a bard, specifically made to enhance the party. I have also been given some songs/music that are able to do damage (as long as I concentrate it happens each round) The specific spell is a Thrash Prull symphony form Dragon Mag. However, I do seem to recall that Dirge or Celebration are similar type spells. (They function as long as you sing/perform and concentrate.

During the last session we encountered a small group of Drow, Mind Flayer and Beholder. The battle started out fine and we were holding our own. However, beholder came into the battle about half way through and pretty much shut down all of our magic, including all of my buffs (still working based on Lingering Song feat from Song and Silence) Once I realized what was going on I began to sing as the performance for a damage song (Thrash Prul from Dragon Mag-- since its non-core use Dirge or Celebration as a similar affecting song as a basis) I continued to sing for 2 rounds hoping to affect the Beholder as soon as he closed his eye to use one of the tactical eyes. As it played out the DM allowed my music to effectively work like a delayed action.

The argument was that the magic comes from the music, as long as the music is being performed the magic can be applied once the antimagic field drops. (all duration still takes affect (concentration wise) so If the spell could effectively last 6 rounds and the field was up for 2 then there would be potential remaining for 4 rounds. It was also ruled that the magic from the music could not carry on beyond the antimagic cone being given off by the Beholder. (Even though the magic comes from the music and the music could be heard beyond the antimagic field. (same argument for dancing as the performance, even though I could be seen the effects do not happen since I am within the antimagic field) We played it out in this manner, but we all felt that it would be good to post on the wizards board to see if we could find more of a consensus or what could be considered a standard ruling based on the 3.5 rules.

Has anyone encountered this scenario or is someone more familiar with the Bardic Music abilities and feats as well as the antimagic field spell that can speak to this problem.
