Bardic Theurge [Archive] - Wizards Community

10-11-05, 11:17 AM Here's an idea I had for a mystic theurge that combines Bard and Cleric levels. It mostly concentrates on arcane casting with a bit of clerical casting thrown in.

It may not be the most effective mystic theurge combination, but it's something for people who want to play a bard with some extra buff spells.

Level 1 - Bard
Level 2 - Bard
Level 3 - Cleric
Level 4 - Cleric
Level 5 - Cleric
Level 6 - Bard*
Level 7 - Bard*
Level 8 - Bard*
Level 9 - Bard*
Level 10 - Bard*
Level 11 - Sublime Chord
Level 12 - Sublime Chord
Level 13 - Mystic Theurge
Level 14 - Mystic Theurge
Level 15 - Mystic Theurge
Level 16 - Mystic Theurge
Level 17 - Mystic Theurge
Level 18 - Mystic Theurge
Level 19 - Mystic Theurge
Level 20 - Mystic Theurge

*For these levels you can substitute any prestige class that gives a full arcane spellcasting progression. For example a Bard\Cleric of Zagyg might take 5 levels of Wild Mage instead of more levels of bard. It is important that you have the casting abilities of a level 7 bard and a level 3 cleric by 10th level.

Taking two levels of sublime chord gives you access to the song of arcane power.

As you take levels of mystic theurge, you increase your casting ability in the Sublime Chord and Cleric.

By 20th level you will have the spellcasting abilities of a 10th level Sublime Chord (17th caster level) and an 11th level cleric.

There are a lot of feats that could help this build:

Practiced Spellcaster
Extra Music
Consecrate Spell combined with the Good Domain
Purify Spell (Book of Exalted Deeds) combined with the Good Domain
Any magic item creation feat to complement the size of your spell list
Words of Creation (Book of Exalted Deeds)
A divine feat to help you put those turn attempts to good use.

Dragon #325 had some mystic theurge themed feats that would be useful as well

Aligned Theurgy (Good) + Consecrate Spell or Purify Spell = insane caster level. (Note: As a house rule, DMs might want to institute a caster level cap on Aligned Theurgy).

Alternative Source Spell + Song of Arcane Power. Now your cleric spells can get a caster level boost as well.

For the character I'm making however, it doesn't fit. I was just going off of that.

The character that I'm making will eventually be a Bard 4/Cleric of Lirr 3/Heartfire Fanner (Dragon #314) 3/Sublime Chord 2/Mystic Theurge 8.
