Base Class (& Other Stuff) for Spellfire Wielder? [Archive] - Wizards Community

Anyway, I've been toying around with the spellfire feat/PrC/etc. in my head, just thinking about what could be a viable build around this ability.

Mainly I've been trying to think of a base class that could compliment the Spellfire Channeler PrC in Magic of Faerun. So far, all I've done is decided against a full caster, as once a character has entered the aforementioned PrC, spellcasting stops. Constitution is prob' the most valuable ability score for it, but other than barbarian, I can't think of any other Con-monkeys.

After looking at the skill list, it looks to jive a lot with the warlock. Now, there is some overlap there (eldritch blast/spellfire blast), but I keep thinking that it would make a good combo (warlock 12/spellfire channeler 8 or something); maybe I'm just trying to see what I want to see.

As an aside, is there a way for a spellfire wielder to be a warlock & be able to power himself up? I'm not too familiar with how spellfire works (never had it in play in my group). Can he absorb effects that are already in effect on him? If not, a spellfire wielder with a warlock cohort could work.

I think I've rambled enough for now. Any thoughts here?

05-18-05, 07:22 PM Con-based characters work well as dwarves. Go dwarven ranger/fighter/dwarf paragon (+2 con)/deepwarden 2(con to AC)/ whatever

Alternately, look at the mongrelfolk. Races of Destiny has them at +4 con, -2 int, -4 cha. No level adjustment.

05-19-05, 05:15 PM Personally, I'm fond of Gnome Barbarian 1/Fighter 1/Stoneblessed (Dwarf) 3/Dwarven Paragon 3/Deepwarden 2/Spellfire Channeler 8/Horizon Walker 1/Battlesmith 1. You only get +15 BAB, but you get 40 Con (48 when raging), loads of special abilities, and of course, rage.

Flaws: Meager Fortitude, Inattentive

I'd think a spellfire wielder would lean more towards ranged combat, though. Tanks just don't come to mind when I think about this. Artillery platforms on the other hand...

The idea with the above is that he rocks in both melee and ranged - for ranged, fire off spellfire, and for Melee...well, a warhammer bigger than he is as a light weapon is nothing to scoff at. Dex is a dump stat for him because of Deepwarden and Zen Archery. His initiative mod will suffer, but he's so loaded with health it shouldn't matter.

it's a +1 Warhammer that lets you add your CON modifier to damage rolls. costs 9k.

05-19-05, 10:32 PM I don't think you can use your own eldritch blast to power up your own spellfire levels(not enough actions per round to fit both in), but you could however, get a warlock cohort via the leadership feat and have him power you up with his eldritch blast.

I feel a rogue does nicely, for the sneak attack bonus. Maybe 2 lvs of fighter for the bonus feats. Psionic shot may combo well with spellfire - you will need a psionic race or the hidden talent feat.

I agree about the eldritch blast. I was asking more for the warlock's buffing/miscellaneous invocations, which normally last the whole day. That's one reason why I thought warlock might be a good base class: most invocations can last the whole day, so caster level (or more specifically, duration) doesn't take that much of a hit when multiclassing (as it does for a wizard or cleric).

But, yeah, I had mentioned the warlock henchman as well.
