Ok, here is the scenario. My friends and I are going to play a combat arena just for fun, and we have set up some rules. Create a level 20 character who does not have any spellcasting ability. (We are using nonspellcasting variants for ranger and paladin, so they are still okay.) One Prestiege Class is allowed, if desired. What do you think the optimal build would be in this situation? Oh yes, I just remembered. No frenzied berserkers. No leadership either.

I was thinking a half-orc 14 barbarian/6 horizon walker.

Also was thinking about a dwarven defender, since he gets damage reduction.

Any other suggestions?

Rogue / Invisible Blade. Your bluffs should be able to easily grant full round attacks with sneak attacks. Fortification will be prevelant, so you'll either want an item that can dispel armor and shields, or just go whole hog and get an item for antimagic field.

Use Magic Device maxed out will let you have millions of different effects that the other characters will not have access to, up to and including shapechange if you want it.

If Unapproachable East is available, Staggering Strike will destroy your foes in an antimagic field, as they will only be getting a single attack.

Depending on the terrain, a template with wings could be very useful (not sure what the Winged Template from SavS has as an LA or race requirements, but if you can get it cheaply, flight will give you the ability to easily evade most foes, especially with a Widned Antimagic field to keep them a bay.

you wouldnt happen to know what type of characters the other players are creating would you? knowing that could help you immensley.

besides that, how are you generating stats, and i assume you're allowed 20th level starting gold for items, any restictions as far as this goes?

they are actually being pretty uptight for some reason this time. Basically, everything I normally do has been banned. That means the items I normally buy, like ring of 3 wishes and ring of 9 lives are banned. No templates are allowed either. Stats are done using 80 points, no stat can be lower then an 8 or higher then an 18 before adding racial stat adjustments, and before adding your stat boosts. (for levels 4,8,12,16,and 20)

As far as what others are playing, I think someone is playing a human fighter with disarm feats and trip feats, etc. Someone is playing a rogue and I believe someone is a monk.

Take a race with wings and damage reduction. Then grab andtimagic field and shoot them with a bow from above. They cant melee you because their flying ability will be nerfed, and it is really hard to do real damage with a non-magical bow (1d8+4 max sound spretty much reasonable). Since your arrows will become magical again once they leave the AMf you can actually do real damage.
