Battle field control with ToB, help please :) [Archive] - Wizards Community

08-09-06, 07:10 AM With the release of ToB I can't resist a new character especially as it looks like the character I'm currently playing looks like he may well die next session or soon after. I don't have the book yet, waiting to be paid next week, but was wondering if those who do could give me some pointers as a good way to go.

The rest of the party is:
Rogue 2/ Hexblade 3/ Chameleon X
Cleric Archer
Almost killer gnome arcane build

Currently level 6 though rather than exact levels I've indicated the type of character they're going for. This means I need to fill the tank/battle field control role which is cool by me :)

In terms of build ideas from the threads already here and articles on the main site I thought either an elven swordsage/eternal blade or human swordsage/monk/shadow sun ninja. I was hoping you guys could tell me which would be more effective or be cooler and maybe expand on my initial ideas a little bit so I can then take them further again when I get paid and get the book. Other allowed books are core (non-psionic), complete, races and PHB2 (which i also need to get on being paid, ill have nothing left at this rate)

08-09-06, 07:31 AM Level 6 is a very nice number to come in at. I'm not sure of your GM's pantheon, but Ruby Knight Vindicator looks pretty sharp, but it's Wee Jas specific. I've been trying to track down all applicable domains for Wee Jas (Law, Death, Magic, Mind, Domination, Planning, and Tyranny so far) to make a good build. I'm invisioning Swordsage 4/Cleric 1 and Ruby Knight Vindicator the rest of the way. Once you get Divine Recovery at level 7, Swordsage becomes a lot more viable.

08-10-06, 05:37 AM Wee Jas can I'm sure be swapped for something else, that kind of prereq usually can. I've been trawling through the threads etc for info on Ruby Knight and it looks an interesting option, also it would add another character with divine spells which is always handy. Which school do you think would be best for this kind of character? Devoted Spirit seems an obvious start.

With regard to the other builds I was thinking Diamond mind for the Eternal Blade and Setting sun, shadow hand for the ninja which I guess are fairly obvious options since they are what the PrCs advance
