Me and my friends have been playing the campaign "Mysteries of the Moonsea for some time now and we're up at around level 8-9 with our characters. At this point, the DM suggested we have some in-game downtime or R&R if you will where we pursue different goals and character development for about a year.

Our group consists of six players where 4-5 are active at any given time (always hard to get all the players to play at the same time) and we are all elves of different sorts. I am not here to talk about their characters but rather, mine as I feel im missing something that would give a little bit of something to my character (like a prestige class or group affiliation).

I play a reincarnated former Star Elf (Unapproachable East) gone Wild Elf level 9 Battle Sorcerer (from Unearthed Arcana p. 56). I am not sure how this all works with how you describe your build but i'll give it my best though.

---------------------------------------

Battle Sorcerer (9)*

Ability Scores
STR: 12
DEX: 20 (used to be 16, but the reincarnate raised it to 18)
CON: 14 (used to be 12, but the reincarnate raised it to 14)
INT: 14
WIS: 10 (really 8, but I use a Headband of Wisdom +2)
CHA: 16

BAB: +6/+1
HITPOINTS: 72

Saves
Fortitude: 6 (Base(2) + Ability(2) + Resistance(1) + Luck(1))
Reflex: 9 (Base(2) + Ability(5) + Resistance(1) + Luck(1)
Will: 7 (Base(5) + Ability(0) + Resistance(1) + Luck(1))

Armor Class: 32 (Italic numbers are spell effects)
(10 + Armor(6) + Shield(4) + Dex(5) + Natural(5) + Deflection(1) + Luck(1))

Feats:
Level 1: Martial Weapon Proficiency (Longsword) - (Racial)
Level 1: Luck of Heroes
Level 1: Draconic Heritage (Song Dragon) - (Flaw: Murky-Eyed)
Level 3: Draconic Power
Level 6: Draconic Senses
Level 9: Draconic Claws

Spell-List:**
Level 0:
Arcane Mark
Detect MAgic
Electric Jolt
Mending
Prestidigitation
Mage Hand
Read Magic

Level 1:
Orb of Electricity, Lesser
Shield (This is where the Shield AC comes from)
Summon Component
Wings of Swift Flying

Level 2:
Electric Loop
Primal Hunter
Silver Dragonmail (This is where the Armor AC comes from)
Wings of Cover

Level 3:
Dragonskin (This is where the Natural Armor AC comes from)
Lightning Bolt
Primal Instinct

Level 4:
Flight of the Dragon

---------------------------------------

Now, my main problem here, is that I lack diversity. I would like a prestige class that wont hurt too much. I know it's hard to find a Prestige class with full spell-progression and a d8 Hitdie but I want to have a few extra "spices" to flavor my class abilities. (seeing as Sorcerer dont get very much exciting stuff going on).

I am willing to take on an extra Flaw to get that very special Feat if there is one out there. Also, seeing as I have 2 natural attacks (claws) I would like to find a way to increase the damage output from 1d6 without having to take the "Improved Natural Attacks" Feat and I am curious about the "Hover" Feat from Monsters Manual I since I can sprout wings. One thought was to get a magic item that would increase my size by one step, which isn't quite bad. But I wont be getting any more level 1 spells and I'm not sure I want to give up the "Summon Component" spell.

I am also considering going through the "Rite of Draconic Affinity" and thus change my Draconic Heritage. I really want to go with a Silver Dragon and switch from Electricity to Cold but I cant really come up with that many good [COLD] spells that will substitute the Electricity Spells I already got.

[EDIT] I am also looking into the Reserve Feat "Storm Bolt" which would let me create 20 ft. lines of Electricity as a standard action dealing my highest number of unused Electricity spells spell level number of d6's. Now, problem I have here is that it doesn't say that I need to roll anything to hit (as with many other Reserve feats) which leads me to believe that it works like a breath weapons. Now, taking that into mind, breath weapons allow for a saving throw for half damage normally, but it doesn't say that about the feat here at all. What's the deal with this one?

I am sure there is a lot more I thought about from time to time, but can't really remember it at this moment.

* At Level 7, I took a Racial Substitution Level (Dragonblood Sorcerer) and got a few more spells that I would have normally

** Note that I have exchanged a lot of the spells from my original spell list and that is because of a long quest that led me to reconnect with my draconic heritage and thus further my connection with the dragons. So no need to point that out.

Oh, and thanks for any and all input on this character of mine.

I might recommend 4 levels of dragonheart mage, sure you lose a caster level but you gain 3 draconic feats

Abjurant Champion from Complete Mage - full BAB and casting progression. I think you can meet the pre-reqs pretty easily.

he would need combat casting.

Shivering Touch from Frostburn is excelent if you can get within range, not certain its a [COLD] spell, but it should be, Ice Lance can really mess up someone with a low fort save, but it can get kinda expensive if your not in an ice rich environment. Can't think of anything else off the top of my head, but looking through the spell compendium can't hurt.

Take energy substitution and use any spell you want. It changes the elemental descriptor to what ever element you select when you take the feat. As for reserve feats they are abilities that can be used at will so long as you have the appropriate spell or spell slot available per complete mage side bar on page 36. The saving throw DC is listed as 10 + spell level or spell slot used + appropriate ability modifier (your spell casting ability modifier). As for PrC's it looks like the abjurant champion is your best bet though this would require the combat casting feat.

If you need to change your charecter to much (maybe swap out a couple feats and/ or do your draconic right thing) you could always ask your DM if he would let you spend your year of down time doing a rebuild quest out of the PHB II, they are pretty good for charecters who started low, advanced, and are in need of some retooling.

First of all, i thank you all for your input.

I might recommend 4 levels of dragonheart mage, sure you lose a caster level but you gain 3 draconic feats
If it weren't for the fact that I think draconic breath weapons are just plain silly on non-dragons, I might've tried the Dragonheart Mage. As a matter of fact, it was my main choice up until a level or two ago when I got stuck with the image of my character breathing a cloud of electrically charged gas and felt "no thank you!"

As for gaining three draconic feats, there aren't really that many good left. I like Draconic Knowledge but from the top of my head, that is the only one left. A whole bunch of them are too temporary to even put any note into.

Abjurant Champion from Complete Mage - full BAB and casting progression. I think you can meet the pre-reqs pretty easily.
Like someone said already, it would require at least three more levels before I can take Combat Casting. On the other hand, the PrC has great HitDice and nice special abilities. Problem is it doesn't go that very hand in hand with my existing spell list and I'd lose out on the "Martial Arcanist" class ability at level 5 due to my already relative high BAB.

It is a [COLD] spell, but i'm going to drop the whole [COLD] part and continue to focus on the Song Dragon in me instead of trying to change. Also, the Spell Compendium is filled with [COLD] spells.. for Druids and Clerics..

I've been looking at the Dragon-Pact Adept PrC. Problem is that since i Have a Song Dragon who I want to tie a better connection with, i'd like to construct my own pact. Anyone have any ideas on how it should be built?
Oh yeah, the "Spell Singer" PrC might not be so bad. What do you think?

Oh, and what is this "SRD" everyone keeps referring to?

Oh, and what is this "SRD" everyone keeps referring to?

system reference documents. it's the set of d20/dnd rules that can legally be copied and distributed freely.

www.systemreferencedocuments.org works. although there are a lot of other places to find it.

anything not in the srd cannot be posted in detail because it would be copyright infringement or something.

Thank you for the explanation on what SRD was.

Now all I have left is the question about the Dragon Pact concerning a Song Dragon and what Spell-like Abilities I should recieve. Isn't there anyone who could help me with this or at least has some thoughts about it?
