After an epic whipout of our part (no more frenizied bersekers in the party please!) we are all starting fresh at level one...

Planned Current Party makeup:
Jotunbrund Human Barbarian planning on Grappling
Half-Orc Fighter planning on trying out Weapon Grand-mastery
Gnome Wizard planning on playing with Alchemy
Kobold Rogue planning on knifing people
Half-Elf Cleric maybe undead-huntering (unsure, maybe uber-healer instead)
Human Kineticist planning on blowing things up

I have been wanting to play a warlock, and given the 'swarmed over' nature of our last parties death something in the combat control field would be nice, with maneuverability also being focused. The field is wide open in terms of available books and feats: anything in the official line of books from any setting is fine. This is what I was thinking....

Race: Spellscale

Stats:
STR: 9
DEX: 13
CON: 16
INT: 12
WIS: 10
CHR: 20 (All gained stats placed here)

Skills: (all kept maxed)
Bluff
Concentration
Knowledge (The Planes)

Warlock 1: Feat: Fiendish Heritage; Invocation: Eldritch Spear
Warlock 2: Invocation: Baleful Utterance
Warlock 3: Feat: Improved Initiative
Warlock 4: Invocation: Entropic Warding
Warlock 5
Warlock 6: Feat: Extra Invocation: See the Unseen, Invocation: Fell Flight
Warlock 7
Warlock 8: Invocation: Wall of Gloom
Warlock 9: Feat: Fiendish Power
Warlock 10: Invocation: Walk Unseen
Warlock 11: Repelling Blast
Warlock 12: Feat: Extra Invocatoin: Eldritch Chain
Warlock 13: Invocation: Caustic Mire
Warlock 14
Warlock 15: Feat: Extra Invocation: Flee the Scene; Invocation: Chilling Tentacles
Warlock 16: Invocation: Impenitrable Barrier
Warlock 17
Warlock 18: Feat: Extra Invocation: Wall of Perilous Fire; Invocation: Caster's Lament
Warlock 19
Warlock 20: Invocation: Path of Shadows

Any suggestions? I tried slugging through the Warlock Handbook, and used some of that advice... but it is getting a bit long and unwieldy to slog through looking for responses to new material. Thanks!

Maximize Use Magic Device. It's the only thing that will keep you viable at the higher levels. I am playing in an epic campaign right now and my warlock is by far the 'weakest' character in the party, but the ability to use scrolls lets me contribute.

Personally, I am not a fan of Repelling Blast, as its use is limited to medium size creatures. I would take Chilling Tentacles at 11th, and Wall of Perilous Flame at 15th. If I were you I would also take Quicken SLA on both of those or with Caustic Mire...very useful.

Use magic device sounds reasonable... since I have to be caster lvl 10 to take Quicken Spell Like ability, which 'Extra Invocations' should I give up?... and I still like repelling blast to push people into the duration-aoes that will be littering the battlefield, even if it is medium or smaller... I think given my battlefield control focus maybe I should shift in some of those 'grappling hand' invocations early as well, and switch 'em out as more viable options become available... so something like...

Feats: I'd switch the L6 feat from Extra Invocation to Flyby Attack, since you are picking up Fell Flight anyways. I'm surprised you don't have Precise Shot in there. What exactly do the 2 fiendish feats do? Is it really worth it over the other feats that you could get?

Invocations: The general Consensus is that Wall of Gloom blows; just use that slot for Eldritch Chain instead. I'm not too familiar w/ the new Invocations that just came out. Earthen Grasp seems like a weak choice, as does Stoney Grasp (I wouldn't pick either, myself, even as a Battlefield Control specialist, and even if you are switching them out). Eldritch Spear is neat, but there is an item in Complete Mage that doubles the range of your normal blast to 60' that is fairly inexpensive. If you really want to do battlefield control early, why not just rely on items until you get chilling tentacles? Wands of Web are great early on, and the DC's will only be slightly lower.

stats: Why are you putting your 16 in Con? Put it in Dex instead; you need to hit w/ your blasts for some of your invocations. If you are using a point buy, go ahead and lower your Wis to 8: Will is your best Save, and stats are better in other areas.

Here's a rundown of what I'd like to play as a Warlock that stays a Warlock through all 20 levels (particularly if I had to start at 1st):

Feats (in order): PBS, Precise Shot, Flyby Attack, Scribe Scroll, Craft Staff (if custom staffs are allowed), Craft Wonderous Item, and w/ the last 2 feats either[Mortalbane] or [Quicken SLA (any)] or [Extra Invocation twice] or [Ability Focus: any] or a mixture of those (if I had an extra feat from being Human, I'd take Scribe Scroll @ 3rd instead).

Invocations (in order):
See the Unseen, Baleful Utterance, Dark One's Own Luck
Fell Flight, Eldritch Chain, The Dead Walk (replaced w/ Charm later)
Chilling Tentacles, Vitriolic Blast, Repelling Blast
Retributive Invisibility, Utterdark Blast, Path of Shadow
