| bloodrever09-19-06, 01:57 PM | I am makeing a cleric wizard mystic thergue. I want the zrcane casting to focus on battlefield control. I have never made a battlefield controler before so what low level spells are good battlefield control spells? |
| dvlsadvct09-19-06, 02:00 PM | Anything from the conjuration and transmutaion schools. Grease and Obscuring mist come to mind. Enlarge person for reach weapon fighters. Web. Color Spray. At extremely low levels; sleep. |
| ZeroEffect09-19-06, 02:18 PM | Mix battlefield effects with illusionary effects to keep your enemies off guard. Is that an actual wall of fire or is it an illusion? |

As to spells, at low levels (where Will saves are not always huge) there is NO BETTER spell than glitterdust (arcane level 2). It basically destroys encounters, plus is good against invisible/sneaky characters. Grease is jsut awesome, so flexible. Illusions (as stated above) are also great. Force your firndly neighborhood raging troll to waste an action "interacting" with an illusionary wall becfore attacking. I have found that the spells from the Miniature's Handbook can also be really good: slide and great slide in particular. Depending on how your GM adjudicated it, you can ready an action to "slide" a character out of the way of attacking monsters, forcing them (if they can) to make a 5-foot steep in between attacks, which means they don't get full attacks if the character is not in their reach. Again, depends on how the GM rules. |

Add in a few fighters/barbarians and the damage is unreal. If your flanking, the Marshal can add, in my case, +5 damage, and with the Dragon Shaman can add +3 damage per hit. the Marshal and Dragon Shaman are both level 10. Or let the Marshall keep the Flanking Aura up and let the Dragon Shaman use the Energy Shield Aura and the damage can get nasty. +5 if your hit while flanking because of the MArshal and +6 damage(Acid in my case) to anyone that hits you....everything starts to add up real quick. I know this is off topic but regardless, the above combo has some battle control. |

The warlockish dragon class in the dragon magic book would qualify moreso as a battlefield control type then a dragon shaman. The new class has breath weapons that cause slow, paralysis, strength penalties, sleep, etc. Status effects/ailments and similar effects (illusion, etc) are where control is at, not aura's that help your party members. |
| LordBOB77709-19-06, 08:32 PM | Yes, while the Dragon Shaman, and Marshal, does more with "group tactics" you cant deny the fact that if the rest of the party is close enough to each other that you would be able to "control" that part of the field. Maybe not the entire field but maybe a part of it at a time. |
| bloodrever09-20-06, 12:41 PM | Well I have access to spell compentimum(I know spelling) so I have alot of spells to go through so I was hoping to get some of the must have ones. |
