I've got a concept for a BBEG based on his background in our home campaign but am having trouble figuring out what his build should be. Any suggestions for classes, feats or spells would be appreciated. I'd like him to be roughly CH 16, but with a clear plan leading him into epic levels.

First off, the guy is a Fey'ri from the forgotten Realms campaign setting and some type of spellcaster, most likely a wizard. In his background, he was a good elf dedicated to collecting and storing evil magic items to prevent their usage. Eventually he got corrupted by the nearby presence of so much evil. Now, he himself has become the embodiment of corruption, turning others towards the worship of demons and generally corrupting the souls of the innocent (i.e. making good aligned NPCs do evil things).

What would be a good build to represent his corrupting influence? I was thinking perhaps a base wizard build, speciallizing in enchantment and conjuration spells (both affecting people directly and with summoned demons). Prestige classes that I thought might work for the character were Mind-Bender from T&B, The Fiend of Corruption PrC from the Fiend Folio or the Diabolist from BoVD (though some of those might limit his spellcasting advancement). I was thinking that a Red Wizard specialized in enchantment might be a good way to make the save DCs on his mind-influencing attacks near unbeatable.

Any ideas? How would you build this character to be both true to his background but effective against a group of PCs? Thanks.

I'd use either the Nar Demonbinder PrC from the UAE book for FR if you are seeking something specifically tasked to demons. If you do not have the BoVD there are also several PrC's inside of there that would work as well for someone who's become corrupted by evil.

FYI: Fey'ri are bred, like almost all creatures are. They grow from youngsters to adulthood, like almost all creatures do. They don't just pop up because of presence of evil, like almost no creature does.

Didn't mean to put you down, since Fey'ri do make intresting characters, but that's just something you should think when planning background or a diverse character such as that.

I'm aware of the background of the Fey-ri; I actually ran the 2E Hellgate keep adventure where they were first introduced. In my current campaign, I use the Fey'ri as a model for a group of elves who've sold their souls to an evil goddess and have gained demonic traits. I suppose I could have applied the half-fiend template to the elves, but the Fey-ri seemed a more elegant and ready-made option (with a lower LA). I'm sorry that I wasn't clear in my original post. I opted to summarize the background of the NPC to avoid boring you all with (what I thought was) irrelevant info.

It was in his past-life (elves naturally reincarnate in my campaign setting) that the NPC collected the evil artifacts, grew corrupt, tried to use said artifacts and was subsequently slain by righteous heroes in the distant past of our campaign setting. But his soul had been so corrupted by evil in that past life that it carried over into his newest incarnation. Tormented by strange past-life memories since his childhood, he felt compeled to follow the path of darkness once more. In his quest to corrupt others, the NPC researched the infernal ritual (based upon the ritual magic introduced in UA) which allowed he and his allies to transform themselves into Fey'ri (in my campaign setting, they call themselves "Ellesar" meaning "those who revolt against the [righteous] gods"). The PCs (who were low-level at the time) encountered the elves while they were secretly preparing for the ritual, which they failed to prevent. Now the PCs are rounding 10th level and are about to cross paths with the Ellesar once more as they are seeking out the evil artifacts from the ancient past.

Hopefully this helps clarify things a bit. So any suggestions for a good infernalist/corrupting fey-ri build? I've been looking at the Nar Demonbinder as an option, which seems feasible, though the skill prerequisites are a bit rough. I was thinking of a Fey'ri Sor8/Ndb7 with feats to boost his summoning and/or raise the save DCs of his enchantment spells.
