BBEG Creation Challenge: Venom [Archive] - Wizards Community

10-21-05, 10:11 AM Hey, it's the Badass Baatezu, and I've got a challenge for you guys. I've been looking long and hard, but I can't find what I've been looking for. I want to see if anyone can create a character that emulates Venom's abilities from the Spiderman comics. Leaping massive distances, ripping things heads off bare handed, regeneration, the ability to hide inside and maintain a human host, wall climbing, claw and bite attacks, pseudopods, and just for S&G's, let's see if we can squeeze in a prehensile tongue. I'm eager to see what you guys can come up with! Thanks!

10-21-05, 10:25 AM feral half-farspawn (claws, 4tentacles (gooey messy tentacles when shape changed[unlimited time]), Fast healing, some spell-likes) human.

levels:
-some ninja (forgot how many levels needed to get the jumping ability)
-enough sorc/wiz to get you spider climb and get you into...
-cancer mage and get the "festering anger" disease (basically +2str/day and you HATE 1 race(probly humans, since it's venom))
-warshaper 3 (more str, con and longer reach, plus you can add a bite while shapechanged)
-start off with some monk levels and 2 fighter levels for some grappler feats

the mhorg tongue graft (long prehensile-ish tongue), maybe a the grafts in the Lords of Madness could provide you with other stuff too to get more "venom" out of the build.

Leaping massive distances (Mental Leap[feat]+Speed of Thought[feat] + Burst[power]), ripping things heads off bare handed (Animal Affinity[power] + Psycho Feedback[power] for immense Strength), regeneration (Imp Fast Healing 2), the ability to hide inside and maintain a human host (Possession Rules- BoVD), wall climbing (Wall Walker [power] or Up the Walls[feat]), claw (Claws of the Beast[power]+Duodimensional claws[power]) and bite (Bite of the Wolf[power]) attacks, pseudopods, and just for S&G's, let's see if we can squeeze in a prehensile tongue (Tongue Whip[item]-ECS).
Suspend life is also flavorful for all those years it spent in space before he got awakened.

10-21-05, 01:21 PM ...major question, do you want this as a PC or as an NPC?

If the latter, it's fairly easy to do, and would give a party a run for its money.

If it's for a PC, well, good luck, cause I don't see it happening without massive ECL, whacked out items, or some really interesting things most sane players won't be able to pull up. Though I know one template I could abuse with it... ;)

10-21-05, 01:37 PM This is as a long running NPC in an ongoing campaign. The personalities, appearance, and catch phrases have been changed to protect the inspirational material. (hehehe.) I was actually trying to build a symbiotic taint elemental/human warshaper with boots of leaping or something like that (would it even work?). As long as I can recognizably read the rules as allowing Venom-like abilities or effects, I'll go off of that. An actual build would be nice. I should have my own take on it posted tomorrow morning.

10-21-05, 02:11 PM when looking at this post I had the idea of using a raggamoffyn (MMII) as the venom suit. venom is essentially a suit that someone wears. a raggamoffyn is essential bit of magical stuff that somebody wears. you'd need to house rule in that it is made out of something like tar from a tar pit (bits of bone teeth and thick black liquid stuff.) while I dont see any rules for adding character levels for the raggamoffyn adding the build that cvazi suggested would be perfect except for the required item to get the toungue. of course the flesh graft idea would work to make an allmost perfect venom with all his abilities being natural and youd give them to any character the raggamoffyn dominated. *shrugs* pretty cool IMO.

that doesnt really help fullfill any of the wanted abilities that 1BadazzBaatezu requested. and it seems to have more of a demonic influance then I would normally asociate with venom. I guess he allways seemed more like an aberrition then an outsider. *shrugs*

10-21-05, 04:18 PM Maybe a "psionic skin" from the psionics book...make it an intelligent item, that can grant otehr psionic powers (wall waking, claws, leaps, etc)... build it by putting togehr magic items (making it wicked expensive, but design it according to the gold allowed to an NPC of that level... then, eitehr build an NPC for it to use as a host... or give it some class levels and have it just need to be on someone (I forget how venom worked)... I believe (at least for a while) after wearing him, you got all the coo lbenifits, and could do whatever you wanted to with him.... but then he eventualyl takes over.. .so make it a cursed item, that makes you chaotic evil... or something? Just some ideas.

EDIT: That psionic skin might work nicely, especially if the ego is enough that it could overwhelm most people. Would you be kind enough to build it so I could take a look?

While I'm on here again, I'll let you all know what books I've got to work with. MM, PHB, DMG, Heroes of Horror, Savage Species, Draconomicon, BoVD, ELH, CArc, CD, CW, CAdv, MoF, FRCS, PGtF, Magic of Incarnum, and I can lay hands on XPH at a moments notice.

I like this. Even without UA, you can still take a Psychoactive Skin (http://d20srd.org/srd/psionic/items/universalItems.htm#psychoactiveSkins) and make it an Intelligent Item (http://d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/intelligentItems.htm) with the normal rules. Give it Form of Doom (http://d20srd.org/srd/psionic/powers/formofDoom.htm) as a Dedicated Power (http://d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/intelligentItems.htm#dedicatedPower), along with Wall Walker (http://d20srd.org/srd/psionic/powers/wallWalker.htm) and any other powers you feel are needed.

Yeah, I basically repeated catharz, but I did it with links! Wooo!

I didn't think of Ego, but that's a good way to explain how it overcomes some poeple and forces them to become BBEGs. :-) Also might make the PCs think twice before slaughtering the host.

10-22-05, 05:19 PM Venom? Well, venom was a combination of Eddie Brock and the symbiont... I'd say the symbiont is an intelligent psychoactive skin, combination of Claw, Defender, Hero, Nimbleness, Spider, and Troll. As said, it can manifest Form of Doom, on self only.
Brock would be a Barbarian/Fighter, in D&D, and a Tough/Strong in d20 Modern. I'd go for the Modern variation.

Venom? Well, venom was a combination of Eddie Brock and the symbiont...Well, if you look at some of the recent graphic novels (Shiver, Run), the symbiont is still identifying itself as Venom, even independent of Brock. But I digress...

Yes, form of doom rocks. If I knew psionics, I would have recommended it myself. I think what we need to do is break down all of Venom's powers and then try to capture as many of these powers as possible. I'll get started:

Spider-Powers (to save some space)
Disguise its host (disguise self?)
Strength amplification (covered by form of doom, can be enhanced with animal affinity)
Vulnerability to fire- and sonic-based attacks
Special nutiritional needs (Brains!)

10-23-05, 06:38 PM I'd love to see an optimized version of this baddie... maybe a Lolth Worshiper to go along with the Spider theme? Can anyone do it up right and show us full progressions for both the symbiont (Intelligent psychoactive skin) and the base form?
