| BrutalMisery01-15-06, 12:23 AM | I just started a 6th level, urban/swashbucklar game, set in Eberron, where aberantions are the main bad guys (the tsoshar, to be percise), though most of the opposition will be humaniods. The party is currently just a shifter barbarian (who is very sneaky) and possibly a psion telelathy (who is very socially powerful). The plot line starts them off in jail, and could very well end them back in jail, with a few ship rides in between. To finish off this level, and this chapter, I would like an intresting bad guy. I was hioping to get yawl's help on coming up with a challenging build for one. I actually have very little crafted thus far, thus, other than humaniod and somehow tied to abberants, there are no restrictions (aside from books). The Complete series, Monster Manuels I through 3, the feind folio, the Lords of Madness, and all the Eberron books are free game. So, what kind of baddie can you think of would be a good challenge, and memorible. Ideas for location would be nice. So far I am thinking of on a ship's main deck, during a strom. Oh, and be a little gentle; I don't want to kill them off...right away. |
| Kuroi Kenshi01-15-06, 02:43 AM | Take it worth a grain of salt, but... Lv5 Gnome Psion that uses telekinetic thrust with multiple flasks of alchemicial acid/fire :D Make it an egoist that uses ectoplasmic form after his flask barrage(s) to make him more annoying and/or allow an escape. |
| Lo77o01-15-06, 07:48 AM | The Cloaker acctualy makes a nice boss. http://www.systemreferencedocuments.org/35/sovelior_sage/monstersBtoC.html#cloaker With 14 Int 15 Wis and Cha its got the mental stats to be cunning and cruel. With decent hide and move silently and a fly speed of 40 it will be able to stay out of harms way for a few rounds if lucky while using its Moan trying to pick off one or 2 of the charecters. Both the hold monster and nausiated version of it can realy screw over the party. Have him hide in some cave somewhere with no light and make illusions when the charecters enters... get the psion to use some of his PP on nothing... after doing that for a while and the charecters starts to ignore the illusion thats when the real thing makes a visit... leg it swoop down and make a fear moan. Then retreat. Make more illusions and make then use more resourses. Rinse and repeat untill one of your moans sticks and 1 is out of the fight, then grapple the other one "unless its a raging barbarian" If you manage to hold them both coup the grace the barbarian then the psion. Make sure to use your Obscure Vision and Dancing images to added defense. Other then that dont be affraid to keep retreating into the cave... might even be a few low CR traps around on the ground since the Cloaker never walks anyway. Allso remeber it got 10 foot reach with its tail and combat reflexes. On a side note, it says people who saves against your moan cant be effected for 24 hours... that doesent apply to the Stupor... so you can blast the tank all day with fort 15 saves and he will eventualy fail, then concentrate on the caster. Thats all iv got for now. |
| TonyStark01-15-06, 11:19 AM | alternativly, you can make an iteresting BBEG that is acutially just a minion of a greater abberent terror in your campaign as a story loop using the abberation feats in lords of madness with a regular class character. with some lakeys arround an abberationed caster could be quite interesting. a sorcerer with good starting str, give him the deep spawn tenticles, extended reach, wings, and size/strength buffs - the barb charges in to him, AoO him with a grapple, then fly up and drop the poor barb (at least he has lots of hp for the fall). |
| BrutalMisery01-16-06, 12:49 PM | Kuroi Kenshi Very neat. I like the gnome ieda. Add in the fact alchemist fire seems so low level it wouldn't hurt doubles the fun. I think I'll use this, adding in some aberrant feats as TonyStark suggested. Lo77o Now that is a cool idea. I will use this, a little bit later. Having a cloaker inthe upper rafters of a house will add to the creepy part (I have a house in mind). Now, the party will be higher level; should I use an advanced cloaker or more of them? TonyStark another idea I had not thought of. I really like the grapple-fly-drop routine, which is something I only thought to use with dragons. Thanks again, and feel free to post more ideas. |
| Tleilaxu_Ghola01-16-06, 01:26 PM | My BBEG thread holds a few builds that might be interesting to you, but I think I'll suggest my idea for an aberration boss (low level): CR 7 Half-Fiend Ethereal Filcher: Starts at Cr 5 IIRC, add on Scout1/Warlock1 to get yourself one invocation, 1d6 eldrich blast, fly-by attack feat, and feats that boost his slight of hand. Also give him a chausible of fell power (CArc). This allows him to make fly to the material plane from the ethereal make a blast for 3d6 damage (EB + chausible + skirmish) and then pop back to the ethereal as a free-action. Alternatively, he can also do a flyby pocket pick. The half-fiend template ensures that this guy is a little more agressive than your average filcher, and it gives him wings. With the huge dex bonus this guy has he won't miss. **For an invocation: see the unseen** The link to my BBEG thread is in my signature. Feel free to add to it when you finalize your boss. |
